Late Model Chevelle Enthusiasts Association began their group on June 15th, 1998 in the attempts to bring people together to discuss our Chevelles and El Caminos. While none excluded, a particular emphasis has been placed on the 1973-1977 Chevelles. <<--- now gone as well
American Chevelle Enthusiasts Society (ACES) is a new national organization started in March 1996, run by Chuck Hanson, and dedicated exclusively to the preservation and maintenance of classic 1964-72 Chevelles, Malibu's, and El Caminos.
Chuck also owns a 73 Chevelle and now allows the 73-77 to be in the group MUCH TO THE DISLIKE of the ol school members saying that Chevelle's died in 72

I often wondered if there was no strike in '72 and what we know as a '73 was a '72 exempt from the big front bumper if it would still be so disliked by the masses. Also limey you manage to find the most obscure things. That is exactly the sight I remember.

It would be interesting to imagine what they would have looked like without the new bumper standards, but I'd hardly call 270,000 Montes sold in 73 alone "disliked".

Not then, now. All g3's were very popular when new. When they got older and less common people suddenly started disliking them. My dad bought a '73 chevelle new. He wanted a Monte Carlo, but couldent afford it.

Re: what happened to the site midsizebowties ?
That's a fair question. I always thought that the 73-77 era would catch on as earlier stuff got rarer and more expensive. They looked good and they had huge performance potential. But then I watched in disbelief as 78 and up became popular instead. Still don't get it and it still annoys me to this day.

I don't get it either since the 78 and up have to be smogged here in Calif. and the 75 and older don't. That's why I bought my 75 Chevelle. I didn't want to mess with the smog crap.

Re: what happened to the site midsizebowties ?
Good example of a '78 versus a '77
In late '77, I ordered a new El Camino at the local dealer, figuring it would resemble the older G3s. The dealer didn't have any brochures yet, with pic of the '78
When the '78 arrived, I immediately hated it, and wouldn't accept it. I thought it was an ugly SOB. Then the salesman said they still had two '77s in stock, so I bought a '77 Classic. And even after all these years, I still don't like the G body Elcos.
Just a matter of taste I suppose

I like G body cars, some more than others and it is a matter of taste for sure.
IMHO the G3 cars just taste better.

When I was in high school the g body cutlass' and Monte Carlos were the cars to have. I always liked the Monte SS and Buick regals the best.

Some decent Hurst Olds cars, 4-4-2's & the GN/GNX of course. There is an 88 Supreme that was their RWD "Swan Song", they're super nice. I like the Montes & Elco's too, Malibu's- there was even a 1 or 2 year Grand-Am run, pretty rare bird.
