This article is part of the GM Authority Mailbag series, where the GM Authority Crew features and replies to your questions, comments, and observations.

Just a few days ago, we received an email from David directing us to the very image you see before you: a rendering of a (modified fifth-gen) Chevy Camaro with some styling cues from the 1970s-era sports car, named by its creator as the Camaro SS70. And according to David, this is “what the public wants.”

In his message, David was very passionate about the rendering’s design and stated that “My boss, myself, and a list I have of 3,000 people would hands down buy one of these if it looked identical” to the photo. David really wants to see the car in the image seen here pushed through to production, but we have a feeling some of you might feel rather differently.

So, SS70 — yay or nay?

Kinda like it, but there is something a bit off somewhere.

I am picturing a hood on it kinda like the Shelby mustangs have.

I agree in that it just doesn't quite look right. As Limey said...seems the styling of the front clip just doesn't mesh with the tail.

Yeah, something's definitely up with the tail, but I'm also getting the impression that it's too skinny. The 70 Camaro gave the impression of being low and wide, which made it look mean. It more looked the part of the street brawler than the previous generation. With this one I'm getting kind of an anorexic vibe...

I think you nailed it...the front looks skinny and the backend looks heavy. Just looks odd.

like it says "modified fifth gen". The first and second generations shared nothing. I like where they're going with it, but i think they need to start fresh. Or at least tear it down to the platform and start with new sheetmetal.

It looks like somebody stuck a body kit on a Lexus or some other generic computer graphic generated POS.The rear fender needs more prominent lines for a sexier,sleek,racier look.The front looks like a cartoonist's creation for the next CARS animated film character.All it needs is a giant set of eyebrows over the headlights.This is just a lazy effort by someone who isn't willing to step outside the lines of a corporate mindset and use their own creative thinking.And it sits too damn high.So There... tongue

Don't like it.. The proportions are all wrong.

Seems to be using the current generation lower belt line & middle flat roof with lame attempt toward grafting a bunch of 70 style cues.

Nothing fits, it's mismatch of different styles and odd lines.

I'm actually partial to the late 80's early 90's Camaro styling, so if they were to retro that style I would be more intrigued. Otherwise, leave it alone.
