waves
I was looking at some stuff on my browser, and saw a weather report for many states, including Michigan. We have been lucky to escape the big storm running through the country.
Anyway, the report prediction stated weather for lake Superior, waves up to 27 feet !!
My house, a two-story I built in the 80s, is 28 feet high, and it's hard to picture a wave that high, on an inland lake !!
I've seen 50 footers on the North Atlantic, but on an ocean it seems more "normal"
The general weather picture for the world, has been getting really weird in recent years.....

Re: waves
I've chatted with a few oceangoing mariners and they said that the great lakes scared the hell out of them because not only of the wave sizes but they sometimes come in different directions at the same time as well as the spacing between them are alot different than what they are used too.

Re: waves
Probably the kind of wave action that led to the capsizing of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

More big ships have gone down in the Lakes than in the Bermuda Triangle.

Re: waves
I have a wall chart showing all the ( known) ships that went missing in Lake Superior..Lake Gitche Gumee, as the indians called it. Lots of wrecks on the bottom..
Don't remember what the known number is for all the Great Lakes,, but some seem to think the total is over 6000 during the last few hundred years...
