Re: 75 Trunk Lid
I had a nice used factory original A$$'y that I installed in my Laguna last Fall. My Monte also came with one from the factory. They are a nice option to have...and, very easy to install.

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
The part numbers for 75 /77 are the same so there is no difference in the lids the angle is on the 1/4 extensions is what makes everyone think they are different.

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
Hmmm...are you certain about that? Hollander Interchange shows a separate part number for '75 vs. '76/'77.

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
Just looked at the Mitchel crash book and there is only one part number for 75/76/77 Have the part numbers if you would like or I can put a picture of it or put my lid from my 77 on my 75 and prove it....

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
Well...obviously, one of the publications is wrong. Post up the GM part number and let's do some research. Guess that's why we're all here...to get the facts.
I still think the '75 trunk lid is unique due to the different tail panel it needs to conform to...and, if I remember correctly, the qtr panel extensions are different?

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
My Issue with what has been said is that the 1/4 panels on a 74/77 are the same part number and the only difference is the 1/4 extensions and the finish panel so then whats the issue ? I have owned 12 of these cars in the last thirty years and never found a lid that did not fit unless the rear of the car was hit and not straightened properly .... I am a collision resto tech of 35 years and know whats up..............

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
Did a little more digging and found a footnote in the Hollander Interchange Manual stating that '75 lids will fit '76/'77...and likewise, the '76/'77 will fit a '75. Â This would serve to substantiate what lagunaman75 is saying regarding the lids being the same...but, it's the qtr extension angles being different that make it look like the lids are different. Makes sense to me...
For the record:
GM pt# 1653319 ('75)
GM pt# 1715269 ('76/'77)

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
Just wanted to put this subject of interchangeability of trunk lids between '75's and '76/'77 to rest for the sake of others because my '75 Laguna has a '76 trunk lid (has the original dated spare jack instruction sheet on the underside) and the fit at the bottom outer corners has always bugged me. As these attached photos show, there IS a difference in the way in which they conform to the qtr extensions.
This photo shows a '75 with factory trunk lid.

This second photo is of my '75 Laguna with the '76 trunk lid. Yeah...it works on the car but, the fit isn't right as far as I'm concerned. If you're a fanatic about even gaps and panels lining up right, this will bother you big time.

I understand the photos are from different angles. However, be assured I studied these closely and found this to be the case with a couple other '75's sitting out in the yard as well. So, there you have it...if you want the correct fit on a '75, you need a '75 trunk lid. Don't know what a '75 trunk lid would look like on a '76/'77

Re: 75 Trunk Lid
If you're using a 75 lid then you need 75 quarter extensions. A 76-77 lid needs 76-77 extensions . The 75-77 lids are ALL the same, all the same, all the same. 75-77 lids are all the same.
