Yup, Chevy made Chevelles for 17 years and the door rotted in the same place on all of them!!!! My 70 has a patch there and my 80 has bubbles in the bottom corners of the doors too!!!

Well i got brave and Pulled the lower rocker trim off and Much to My surprise there was only one other spot that will need a Patch THANK GOD for that I did apply some primer filler there on it that I could see the Pin holes also so I don't miss them when I cut it out for a Patch NOW just drive side fender and roof, I have also decided to scuff the hood when ready for paint later this Summer so all colors match.

Re: This SE Now Belongs to my 18 year old daughter now LOL
Looking good. You are lucky those doors arent rottet completely away in the bottom. I have never owned a chevy of any year or model that did not have rotten doors. I had to buy 2 rustfree from a bone yard in Texas when i did my chevelle. That of course meant cleaning out 10 pounds of sand and dirt on the inside. Also the fenders have a nasty habit of rotting out in the bottom next to the doors. And if they are there is a good chance the inside of the cowl is gone too. The Cowl and fenders rot out from leaves and debris getting trapped inside the Cowl. Since gm was so cleaver as to put a plastic flapdoor on the side of the Cowl, it just made it getting full off crush so much easier and faster.Â
That is why the floors rot out, since water can get in through the part off the heatercore that pokes up trough the Cowl. Mine was totally gone in the cowl and floors. Actually most off the body had rust in some form and had been patched up more than once. Po had tryed to keep water out putting silicone around the windshield not realising the water was coming from the Cowl. That also lead to electrical issues since water was running into the fusebox making all connections rot.Â
Sorry for the long story, i hope yours are alot better than mine was.

Re: This SE Now Belongs to my 18 year old daughter now LOL
I wish i could find a set of those turbine rims. I always had a soft spot for the look of them on a g3 chevelle or elcamino. If i had the funds i would have 4 new ones machined. At one point the western turbines was pretty easy to find, even here in Europe and i actually had a set on my 73 elco. Bu at the time they were out of style and no one wanted them so i sold them cheap. Now i wish i still had them. Its weird how things come back in style like slotted mags.

I drove it from the Other House to here when we moved here almost 2 years ago .... I had it running around Yard Last summer also When I got released from my leg Infection ....
The 305 desperately needs attention almost every seal leaks except head Gasket, trans pan leaks, Have to reattach the speedo Cable from Previous owner, Just alot of little tedial things that need addressed, Shocks on all 4 corners, Have to put the impala sway bar yet just small little things that are adding up.
I have yet to decide which one gets the 454, it will prob be this one when I pull the 305 Till my daughter gets done with Bodywork on hers. She starts Career-Tec this year at the Local college for Auto Body and second semester she can take her Chevelle in for floors and what not Prob end up with a 305 jut not the original one to my Car in case of any needs for hot rodding it like I know she will, after all she will be 18 when she gets car (grades permitted) that is

There is nothing like a little shiney pot of gold to make a our kids work just a little harder. My daughter is 17 and dets her license to drive a car next year. ( if she dosent smoke or raise to much hell) and has her moms almost new fiat 500 in her sights, if and only if she keeps her grades up. And since a license here in Denmark will run you 3000 dollars or more, im not playing unless she keeps her end of the deal.

Re: This SE Now Belongs to my 18 year old daughter now LOL
Ant, is that final coat primer or epoxy primer? Reason being, primer is porous. Even simple morning dew goes right threw it to the base. Rust starts from the inside out and you wont find out about it until its too late.
If I ever have to leave primer on the panel for a short time I keep it in a dry indoor location. If its going to be unpainted for awhile, I shoot a coat of 2k epoxy. Its the only thing that will seal it from the moisture. But even easier, and if I dont have some 2K epoxy, I leave the primer to set up and then shoot one coat of base color, then its sealed and no worries about moisture or morning dew outside.
Just fyi. How many times we see a primed body panel on a car sitting outside and the surface rust is coming right through. Takes a bit of time to see it but moisture in the air goes right through the primer.
Primer needs to be sealed or topcoated ESPECIALLY if its going to be stored outside.
Just my 2 cents.

More Progress on the Chevelle today I installed the new door that I have been working on and I will be dammed if it didn't fall one time and scratch it (after 2 round's of blocking) So when I got it all smoothed out I had to put the Etching primer Where I blocked thru the Primer surfacer to Bare Metal, Well will post more when I do more Thanks for Viewing
