I do not understand your question. Just guessing what you mean, you could put a 4.42 posi in it and the super torque of the 455 will pull it off the line alright. JB

try a taller rear tire!! or a od trans .......350 and 400 turbo both have 1 to 1 high gear so no change there!!!!

In all honesty, if your 455 has too much gear anyways. You are probably fighting for traction right now & redlining before the traps right? 4.10s are for small blocks and non-torque making Chebbies, lol. I'm willing to bet you could drop down to 3.42s or 3.73s & get the results you're looking for while improving your 60ft times. Just depends on what your car is mainly used for.

OK. I've been playing around with DD2003 so you can get an idea. Realize that Desktop Dyno is usually about .5 second faster than real life, but this should give you something to think about. Also, I threw in the 3.08s not because I recommend them, but because it shows that torque motors like Olds don't need as much gearing. Remember you got a full 1/4" more stroke than a 454 Chevy!

All tests were with aggressive driving, "typical" track conditions, optimized wheel spin (which I'm pretty sure you won't get with 4.10s), 2,500 stall (just guessing), & 26" tires. I also went with the TH400 since you said you were swapping one in.

Gears 4.10 3.73 3.42 3.08
E/T 12.326 12.129 12.160 12.249
MPH 99.4 109.4 113.67 112.7
0-60 3.762 3.833 3.914 3.998
RPM 5500 5500 5274 4708

Note the 5500rpm on both the 3.73 & 4.10 gears. That was DD's predicted redline for the motor. The 4.10s were bouncing off 5500 RPMs at 1,000 ft. I can get more accuracy if you want to shoot me more numbers or tell me what I need to change. One thing to really look at is the 3.42s won't give you as much wheel spin as the 4.10s or even the 3.73s which means in reality you're gonna get better 0-60 times. Also, the 3.42s give you the highest mph of all 4 gear ratios; indicating these would be your best choice with this set-up.

26" tire is too small set it up with a 28" tire which is a 275/60/15

I made a whoops on my original chart, so I fixed it to 0-60 instead of 60 ft Embarassed Anyways, here you go Dan. This is what 3.73s & 28" tires would do:

Gears3.73
E/T12.151
MPH113.8
0-603.904
RPM5352

Looks nearly identical to the 26" tires with 3.42s.

go with 3.08 gears unless you are seeking out the absolute last .010 second in the 1/4 mile.
with all that torque, it will still be fast, but it will be not only more pleasant but also easier to drive. and you will have a scary fast top end charge if you should find a place to open it up.

Here are a few other calculators to mess around with tire size and rear gears:

Yes! I did mean a 3.42. Nothing unusual about my typing mistakes. JB
