Found an add for a 76 Gran Prix.
Young kid answered didn't know much about the car.
Dad passes away and left it to him.
Any info appreciated.
301 engine?
Any other available engines?
Where am I going to store this thing?
Ugh!!!!!

Most of the ones I see in the junk yards have the 400 c.i. engine. Some came with 455's.

The 301 is the only odd-ball Poncho V8 - no aftermarket support and parts from other Pontiac V8's do not bolt up. I can completely understand the Pontiac thing - I have a '69 Grand Prix sitting in the garage, it came with the base engine like your 1976, only mine was a 10.5:1 compression 350 HP 400 with TH400!

Instead of putting $$$ into the 301, find at least a 350 or preferably a 400 Pontiac to replace it with. You will also want to replace the 7.5" rear end if you go with a 400. If you are near Michigan I have an 8.5 out of a 1975 442 laying around.

Among A-bodies , I know I am seeing fewer and fewer though a very popular seller through the 70's. Matter of fact , I see none at local events ! Even more the reason to have one !

The 68-72 Grand Prix.....a beautifully designed car.....another you dont often see !

Thank God the 301 was a 77 option..not even good as a boat anchor.
I'm hoping I get a 400 or 455 motor.
If the car has a 350 it would be my only small block.
Anyone have a bad A$$ 350 pontiac?

Anything from 68-72 was fabulous.
Best American cars ever built.
More 68-72 remain on the road than any other model years.
Beautiful looks.
Great power.
Loved by all.

Still waiting on photos but the kid selling it says it started right up!
Vinyl interior had me thinking it was a base model.
It has a 400...hmmmm
Ultimate sleeper?

I personally like the 400 better than the 455, I have owned both. A 455 has tons of low end torque and will smoke the tires at will, a 400 revs quicker and higher than the 455. Either one you have to roll then step on it or you never stop smoking the tires!

Pontiac 400 is one motor I've never owned.
I can't think of another GM motor that I haven't had in one of my cars.
Looking forward to taking the GP for its maiden voyage. GoFast
