New Guy from TEXAS!
Hey Guys! My name is Bobby and I have been addicetd to G3's for about the last 9 years!
I currently have three projects in the works(pictured) a 1977 Malibu Classic - my first one, a 1976 Chevelle, and a 1975 Laguna S3 ( and I am currently in the works to acquire another 75 S3 ). I also have a rusty and rotten 76 Malibu Classic that I am using for parts (not pictured)

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
It's about time someone other than me owns a base model 76 on here! From the looks of it, I'm guessing granny kept it in the garage?

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
Nope.
74 had "Chevelle" on the grill and rear panel.
75 had it on the grille and on the BASE Malibu, on the rear panels, real small
76-77 BASE Malibu Only it had "Chevelle" on the rear panels.
Malibu Classics are still often referred to as "Chevelle" but there's no Chevelle ID on 76-77

Which is why I call mine a Chevelle.
The actual Chevelle name was dropped in 78. Somewhere in one of my books, there's a reasoning behind the name drop, but I can't remember why.

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
well, i learn something new everyday im on this site. i knew a guy with a 74 a few years ago and he told me 74 was the last year for the chevelle. he seemed to know his stuff and i started looking at later years and never saw a chevelle emblem. i didnt do any real research on it though. ive always drove 78-up malibus and got a kick out of the old timers who always call those cars chevelles.

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
The reason for dropping the Chevelle name complertely in the 78 models was because of the "gas crisis" and Chevy wanted to reinforce their new commitment to saving gas by making the 78 models smaller and elemninating the Huge Chevelle model name. JB

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys! Yep the ole base model is my favorite at the moment, prolly the straightest and most rust free body I have ever seen, with the exception of the front bumper and drivers fender (somebody hit it before I got it!). The kids have already laid claim to the Laguna and the 77 - and they are 5 and 3 and dead set on there choices! Gotta love em!

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
Original paint job on my latest 76. Unfortunately, the door is caved in now after an accident in the shop.
It took nearly ten years after losing my first 76 base model to find one in this condition & only $1,400. It had no power, but sure was dependable. Can't wait until cooler weather comes & I can get it running again.
Camera dates are wrong BTW...

Re: New Guy from TEXAS!
I have always been a fan of that Brown color! I lucked out on my 76 when I rescued it from the trailer headed to a scrap yard. It was a one owner, didn't run, and I traded and old A/C unit I had for it! Total Luck!

WOW! That is real lucky. If I ever ran across a score like that, I don't know what I would do. Wait yes I do, I'd have another project car. LoL! Thanks for the compliment on the color. I've been up in the air on color choices, but the more compliments I get, the more I think about keeping it brown.
