If it's up near the radiator, it's more than likely your charcoal canister for emissions junk. Most if not all cars made after 1974 have that on them.
It's hard telling though. Your best bet is to get a service manual.

That is your charcoal canister, Its there to hold the gas vapors from the gas tank while its sitting, when your engine is running it pulls a vacuum on it and burns the vapors in that canister. Its all emissions baloney. I usually run a check valve on my return line and cap off the intake and remove all that junk. Saves weight and cleans up the engine compartment.

MAKE SURE ALL YOUR VACUMM LINE ARE PLUGED TO IT AND JUST PULL IT OUT. SHOULDNT BE A PROBLEM AT ALL
