Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
Threw on the new fender, bumper and new cowl hood. Its a 2" rise and fits nicely. The original grill only has the missing piece where it meets the headlight. Im going to bend a piece of flashing aluminum to make the piece, epoxy it on and cover it with some chrome vinyl wrap. Just so its together to get through the state inspection.

Looks good. Like I always said “A hood with a cowl is the cat’s meow”. You should be finished soon. I lived without a truck for a couple of years. It was tuff.

Nice. What brand bearings are those? I always lean towards SKF or Koyo. Are you changing out the "gov-lock" unit as well. They're not reliable at all. Ive blown up three of them over the years.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
They are the Koyo brand bearings. I am keeping the G80. Eventually it will break, but maybe, by then, Detroit Tru-Trak will come out with a direct fit unit for this application. From what I have read you have to use a spacer for the one they sell now. I am building this truck for all highway use. There will be a good bit of red light fun, so let’s see how long it lasts.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
I like the Koyo bearings. Im real leary of the gov lock diffs. Too many issues. The ones Ive broke all took out a couple teeth on my pinion gear.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
Congrats. Yes, 4.10s really liven things up. I said the same thing when I put them in my chevelle.
I have the state exam for my silverado next thursday. Should be able to squeeze the truck into my buddies paint booth after that. Hoping to get some color on the parts by late next weekend. I'll post pics of it. Cant wait to see it together, in color, with the cowl lined up.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
Couple paint pics. This is after removing the masking paper. Then pics of the sanding. I dont have a pic of it buffed but it looks good. Last pic is of my new compressor. Probably going to sell my current one. Front end parts are just bolted on quickly to do the 1:15 ride home with it. Also put new tires on and used some Counteract glass beads inside for balancing. No weights on these tires. Going to put the 2" level kit in the front end and get an alignment next. Today I sent out the ECM to michigan to disable the AFM and related codes. No more V4 mode for me.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
That looks great! This summer I might try my hand at painting my Laguna. Getting rid of the V4 crap is the best thing that I have done so far. My gas mileage hasn’t changed either. What a poor excuse for a gas mileage bandaid.

I hear ya. I love painting. 2k epoxy is your best friend. Put it on all bare metal and filler goes on top of that.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
Yes it is! I really thought that, especially with the way I drive, that the mileage would drop to maybe 16 or so. I think that I will reset it tomorrow and use the cruise control all next week just to see if it will get 20 with 4.10 gears. I think that would be amazing.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
Hey. I just finished up with my last, for awhile, upgrades to my truck. I installed the long tube headers, big catted y pipe, plugs, wires, O2 sensors, ported 6.2 intake and throttle body, and custom tune. A couple of weeks ago I installed new Bilstein struts and shocks. This truck is now officially cool. I can now drive to work and keep up with Houston traffic.

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
Sounds like you have created the ultimate daily driver! How did you end up getting the broken exhaust manifold bolt extracted?

Re: New Project 2017 Silverado
I haven’t yet. They make a Dorman product that you bolt on the head and put pressure on the flange with an adjustable bolt. Problem is, it’s for the opposite side. I made one of my own but I have not been successful with my shoulders at putting it on.
