Stainless steel!!! >:(

Post by 74MonteCarlo on Sun 9 May - 20:05

I f'ing HATE stainless steel! Once it gets scratched up, that it! Makes the whole car look like hell. The grille of the Plymouth is all stainless. So scratched, it looks like hell against the rest of the near perfect car! The beauty rings of my Monte Carlo look awful, as do the beauty rings on the Plymouth! Anyone else hate stainless steel?

Okay...rant is over...!!!

Makes the scratches worse! Used it on the beauty rings for the Plymouth and they were worse. I can get stainless clean...just pisses me off how easily it scratches.

Did you try very light steel wool? There are diffrent grades just like sandpaper in case you didn't know.

kyle go to a harbor freight store buy the aluminum polishing kits it has 3 different abrasives I cleaned my stainless trim up real nice ...............mounts to a power drill.

BTW use a newer electric drill or it will burn the stainless ask me how I know !!

do not use battery powered ones they drain to fast............

Yeah, but will it remove ground in scratches? Keep in mind...my beauty rings are the originals...you can only get 36 year old stainless steel, that's always on the road, so nice...

I polish mine all the time...all of my stainless is very clean and very smooth. Just scratched...

Yes, and if you polish it enough, you will get the scratches out. Just use a slightly more aggressive media when you're polishing.

I wont try anything on the Plymouth grille. I'll just keep it clean. It's a lot easier to get new beauty rings(should I make them worse by any chance) than to get a 48 Plymouth grille...

I like stainless. I have polished alot of stainless with great results. Use steel wool or sandpaper the grit should match the scratches you are trying to remove then go to finer grits of paper 1000grit or wool 00, after that you have to use rouge and some sort of buffer. There are also different grades of rouge. Harbor Freight has a great little kit for under 20 bucks Item # 98710 14 Piece Stainless Steel Polishing Kit These are great kits that work with a drill. For best results use something faster like a rotary air tool. Hope this helps!
