I have seen the 73 chevelle ss with steering wheels that have the all aluminum with the ss in it and then I have seen them where the aluminum part is all black but the ss logo. was wondering witch one is stock, is the black one stock and the others just wore off the paint or what.

I've never seen a black aluminum insert. Mine is a brushed aluminum with white SS letters. Never seen it any other way. Do you have a pic of the black one?
I've have seen guys take a laguna/camaro 4 spoke wheel and put the round black SS emblem in the middle.

Original for the 73 SS is the aluminum with white letters.

Thats pretty cool. Never seen that before and I've been into 73's since 1982. Is is possible that someone sprayed/painted it?

thats sure a possibility. im gonna dig into it a bit deeper. but like you said this is the only one ive ever seen black so youre prolly right.

also my steering wheel on my 73 ss is stock, and you can see where black use to be on it but has wore off. very very little left on it you barley can see it.

My '76 SS El Camino had a black wheel like the one pictured. Never gave it much thought...

now that just makes the search that much worse lol, Im wanting to put mine all stock when it comes time, so just trying to narrow down the 73 year.

That might make sense. I think the 73 SS had the silver. Since that was the last year of the chevelle SS they still made the el camino SS. Thats probably where it came from. I've owned (2) 73 SS's and seen dozens more. Never seen the black wheel on one.
