WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
Looking to buy a pair of original front crossmember -to-frame braces. These appear to run behind the front wheels. I just noticed the original mounting bolts still attached to my car. Looks like one of the braces was hacked off. Maybe the same "hack" who installed these headers that I'd like to send thru a shredder..... hehe.
Lemme know what you have, thanks.

Anthony, late following up, but I tried to find your PM with the phone number of your contact for the frame reinforcements but looks like once enough PM's pile up they start to get deleted. Would you happen to have his contact info? Thanks.

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
Some of the headers made in the 80s wouldn't fit without removing those braces. Seems kinda dumb on the part of the outfit that made them..
GM didn't use braces unless the vehicle needed them, considering the cost ...

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
I have yet to see a set of headers that would clear those braces. Anyone have a set that does clear?

I had a set of cheap blackjack headers on my 73 BB and was able to retain the driver side brace. I replaced them a few years back with some longer tube headers and it had to come off. I have thought of fabricating some kind of brace but never got around to it. It doesn't seem to hurt anything without them but I'm sure they serve some kind of purpose.

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
My braces have been out since the 80s without any issues. I would also like to know if there is a brand of long tubes that fit with the braces on a smallblock. I considered going to some mid lengths instead.

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
I have ceramic coated headers that clear those braces, on my '74 Malibu. The coating isn't very good, but they were cheap !
Bought them from Summit..

Doug Thorley Tri-Y's clear them with plenty of room. Probably any Tri-Y would, since they're not trying to stuff four pipes into that space.
Best photos I have right now:

Thats interesting !!! Thanks for posting the pics.
I'm always keeping my eye out for a nice set of headers for my new build. But I'd really like to go stainless.

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
Looks like they still make them, for anyone who's interested:
http://shop.dougthorleyheaders.com/collections/tri-y-headers/products/tri-y-headers-thy-375y-c
...though they're ceramic coated, not SS. Back when I bought mine 30 years ago they were triple-chrome plated, and they looked great for the first 10-15 years. After that they were showing their age. They're heavy gauge tubing and still rock solid, so I wanted to get them Jet-Hot coated, but that was too expensive, so I just opted to use header paint for some protection. They've lost their looks, but they do the job.

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
Cool. I was just looking into Stans headers. They have them in bare steel for $588. Then there is a charge if you want ceramic coating and they will also make them in stainless with 3/8" flange. Havent priced out the stainless but I'm sure its up there in price.

Re: WTB: 73 SS crossmember braces
Found some flowtechs that are reasonably priced and have an interesting chamber designed into them.

Ooh, those DO look intriguing. Maybe when I get around to those aluminum heads I've been lusting after...
