Cam to big for stall converter Empty Cam to big for stall converter

So when I bought my car the last guy said he put a new can in it, and I assume that he put in a "big" cam because that's just what some do because they think they'll gain a significant amount of power, but he did not put in a higher stall converter it is the stock one. So every once in awhile I'll be sitting at a light and the car will stall and then I have to fire it back up. In park the car idles 1000rpm then in gear it idles around 850rpm. Is the stall the problem? When I swap to a Muncie should this stop happening? Thank you guys-Justin. And I'll try to post some pictures of my car tomorrow !!

Bigger cams require looser converters. Wont have problem when switch to manual. Your foot will do the slipping with clutch.

Sounds like the idle is too high in park as well. Maybe you have a vacuum leak or fuel level in carb is too low.

As long as I keep my foot on the gas it will not die but as soon as I take my foot off it will run for a few seconds then die.

Agree. Check vacuum leaks and timing and carb adjustmemts. Without hearing the car it could be alot of things. Can spray carb wd40 or carb cleaner (caution on hot engine. Poof. Flames) around the intake and carb if idle changes. Leak. Timing off a tooth on distributor. Couple spark plug wires crossed? Wires old? Can tell that at night and see sparks jumping around in the dark. Timing to advanced or retarded? If you just bought it and drving. Check those items out when you get a chance.

I've had the car for about two years now, last September I installed a 1406 edelbrock carb and intake, it used to run great but it still kept dying on me. So I check out all these things to see if I can trouble shoot it. Thank you guys!

Edelbrock carb float level is very important and they tend to come out of spec when being shipped. Very annoying to set the float level but the directions are on you tube.

That's good to hear !!  It could have been worse.
A friend bought the new Edel 2x4 airgap manifold & carbs.  Could not get it to run right.  He finally took both carbs apart, and found shavings and debris in both carbs.  The factory quality control just wasn't there...

In regard to cams & converters, my 408 inch engine in my Malibu has a Comp 280 Magnum cam, and a stock converter, but, I have Rhoads Lifters, which tame the engine a bit at low RPM, and also provide vacuum for the brakes etc

My brakes are perfect they feel great, eventually I want to build a budget 350-355 small block 450hp/tq with my Muncie and a true trac in the 10 boot I have right now.
