When your car was new...
Simple question:
What were you doing when your car was new?
My current family...
1972:
I was a year away from making my earthly debut.
1976:
I was 3 years old. I welcomed my parents' first Monte Carlo to the family, a 1976 model that I "claimed" as "mine" in later years. I was also a year away from my first open heart surgery.
1979:
I welcomed my baby sister to the world.
1981:
I finished first grade in the spring; started second grade in the fall.
1987:
I was in middle school ... and had to say goodbye to my best friend who died of an asthma attack.
Former members...
1988:
I finished middle school and entered the world of High School. I first started thinking about having one of every single YEAR of the Monte Carlo. I later re-thought that ... with the goal of one of each generation, which I completed March 2002.
1997:
I started my first full-time job, after graduating from college a year earlier. I also put my '79 MC Landau (first car) away for the winter and bought a new "daily driver".
2000:
I was one Monte Carlo away from completing the family, having bought the '81 MC SC from my parents December 1999 and the '76 MC Landau a year before that; I've never bought a Monte Carlo brand new. I was still working at the same company, but had switched jobs in late 1999, about the same time I bought the 2000 vehicle. Health wise, I was (unbeknownst to me at the time) 3 years away from my 3rd open heart surgery.

In 1974 my parents were both 14 and didn't know each other. I wasn't even a thought. LOL.
Obviously too, in 1948, my parents weren't even born. Lmao.

Re: When your car was new...
Well, if I went through my entire list I'd be telling my life story as many cars & years that I've had. Here's just my currently owned cars. Keen eyes will notice a certain car is now MIA.
76 (Chevelle) - Not even thought of to my knowledge.
87 (Samurai) - As a 5 year old, I was in pre-K already dropping my drawers for the ladies. LoL, I remember this well. Also, I was just 3 years away from shattering my right femur & learning what pain really felt like.
01 (Taurus) - Graduated HS this year. Moved to Tulsa & went to Spartan School of Aeronautics. Had a crazy GF that I kicked to the curb a number of times before I eventually moved back to KS. 2001-2003 were the wildest years of my life. I ended up getting into some bad stuff while at the same time, had a lot of fun doing it.
05 (Durango) - By this time, my daughter was 1 year old. I had settled down considerably & started getting my life on track. Although my wife (not yet married at the time) & I had our fair share of problems, we worked through it & got married last year after having another child in 06. This was also the year that I had decided to get back into muscle cars & away from the sport compacts. I got my 72 Cutlass this year & began my hunt for another 76 Chevelle.

Don't worry, I'll be 28 this year so you only got a few years on me. It is amazing that most of our members are teens or at least in their "partying" years. When I was in high school no one liked my ride but me & a couple of girls impressed with loud exhaust. In college, everyone was into the first F&F movie & had gawdy wings with stupid body kits on their Honda Civics. Glad kids are starting to swing back to rear wheel drive V8's.

i think a lot of it has to do with these cars being one of the few remaining ways to get into an old car at a young age.

lol well some people never appreciated these cars because of the weight
but i love the body lines, i love driving a giant car
and im sure the youngins would much rather be driving something like a 71 chevelle or 69 chevelle, you know.... whatevers trendy
