Brandon, seriously, you are confusing a lot of people with your posts. Take 30 seconds and re-read before you post. Not being an @$$, just telling the truth.

Or at least put periods & punctuations in somewhere. I won't complain if I have to read an extra couple of sentences in your post. Especially if it's more legible. Also, if it needs new gaskets/seals it ain't worth $350.

You have pull straps on a Malibu Classic? Did you get Monte Carlo door panels for it? I got my parts from The Paddock, which is now out of business.

Has it been run since the new cam was installed? If not you will need a break-in run of course, and a pre-oil of the block. If it's been broken in already, you will just need to pre-oil it with a pre-oiler which goes in the distributor position. I use and old distributor with the gear teeth machined off, and the top plate on the shaft cut off etc.

A pre-oiler is a way to turn the oil pump with the distributor removed, by using an electric drill motor to turn the oil pump, to fill the oil passages in the block/crank etc before start up. When an engine sits idle for an extended length of time, the oil in the block may drain back into the pan to some extent. Pre-oiling is like insurance against a dry start on the bearings etc. If the old cam was removed to be replaced, the engine will be mostly without oil in the block.
Like I mentioned, if it hasn't been run yet, it needs a cam break-in (2000 to 2200 RPM for 30 or more minutes, if it has flat tappets) ( not roller lifters) Idling a new cam for any period at all will eat the cam and lifters within the first 10-15 minutes of run time.
Others here will likely chime in about this.

you can also use a ton of cam lube on the cam and lifters when you install it as well couldnt you?

when i broke in my engines after rebuilding, ive always just used cheap regular oil (not synthetic) and then put a ton of cam lube on the lifters and cam, broke in the cam, and then drove the car 500 miles before doing an oil change + filter with synthetic.

is this an effective alternative when rebuilding/building an engine in your opinion? (im still relatively new to hot rodding (only doing it about 2 years now)

If you want good torque in a streetable motor for cheap in a 350/383 I really recommend mine.

350 block
Vortec Heads
Edelbrock EPS Intake
Cam 272/282 advertised duration with .465/.488 lift and 112 lobe separation

however, an 1800 stall converter really helps because the engine immediately jumps to about 1000 rpm as soon as you put it in park with a stock torque converter (I think a smaller cam would help with this)

anyways, the set up was also cheap, the parts, gaskets and all included was about $1,200...I can get the complete parts list if your interested.

Not a bad combo at all TW, but a smaller cam with a tighter LSA would have netted some more low end grunt without affecting vacuum. I'm also a fan of Swirl Port heads if Vortecs are out of the price range. Most people chunk them so they can be had for a song & they do what they were designed for, stump pulling torque while falling flat on their face after about 4,000-4,500 rpm. Not a real performance head casting, but good for daily drivers wanting to upgrade from a smog casting. JMHO.

Got the casting #'s for any of this? At least you could have an idea of what you're running.

is it a stock cam? cause if that engine is exactly how it was run in 78, its going to have about 150 horsepower.
