gauges lighting problem
Hi Guys ,
since I own my 75 Chevelle Sedan , the dashboard lighting never had worked . Now that winter is coming , I'd like to have a properly lighted dashboard .
I took the dashboard cover out today , but couldn't find the light bulbs , but one which lights the wiper switch .
That bulb was OK , I checked it on my Ohmmeter . So I presume all the other bulbs must be fine
Wich fuse should I look at to be sure I'm looking at the right one ( don't want to break them all )?
Could it come from the light switch's variable rheostat ?
Any other idea ?
Many thanks !
Laurent

Re: gauges lighting problem
If none of them work then I would suggest replacing the headlight switch. thats what was wrong with ours.

Re: gauges lighting problem
Hi BC !
are those lighting switches specific to the 73-77 models or will all the GM switches from the 70's fit just right on ?
Many thanks !

Re: gauges lighting problem
Since it's all of them, I agree, if it's not the fuse, then the headlight switch is most likely. You have to remove the entire cluster to get to the bulbs. They're a wedge based #194 type.
Has anyone used the LED replacement types?

I think most GM cars shared the same headlight switch. As I know our 73 Chevelles and my 70 Chevelle and our old junker 80 Citation all had alike headlight switches

Re: gauges lighting problem
I was going to hide some LED strips above the cluster to make it brighter, now i wonder if these LED replacement blubs are bright enough? I have to buy a set and try it out.

Wow, I must really be uncool. First black primer is out, now it's not cool to have that old green glow in the dash??? I really need to start catching up on the trends.

If I was a trend follower, I would own a Pro Touring Camaro on 18 inch rims instead of a G3 Chevelle. That ain't gonna happen
