They're predicting up to 15 inches here.
I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: here we go again
I just heard on the radio we could get up to 11" here over the next two days. All of this after a 70* weekend.
At least I got some work done on the car. If the damn weather would stay clear, I could be driving her again within a week or so. She's getting close.

Re: here we go again
That's a '65 Chevelle. One behind it is a '67 Tempest. You can't make them out, but in the upper right corner, there is a '77 Cutlass Supreme, '73 Cutlass S, '73 Chevelle Malibu and a '73 Chevelle Laguna. Also, that gold blob in the far left upper corner is a '77 Monte with "junk in it's trunk". Already got 3-4" of snow this morning.

Re: here we go again
Ten years ago there were several yards around here with older cars & trucks. Now two of them have been completely cleaned out & the ones still in operation cleared the older stuff when scrap was up.

Re: here we go again
You don't know how many times I hear that story repeated by car guys all over this country. We, too, used to have many more around the Twin Cities area but I know at least some of them were driven out of business by city planners who thought they were an eyesore. And like you say, the rest decided to take advantage of scrap values when they were high and focus on later models. One huge yard in western MN was taken over by the owner's son and, in an apparent stroke of genius, thought it better to crush all the old stuff (dating back to the 30's) and concentrate on newer stock. Word has it he has regretted that move since most of his customer base disappeared...DUH!!

The exact same thing happened just last year to the yard just 1/4 mile away. The father passed, the sons disputed a little, then the younger two destroyed most everything when they decided that towing & auto repair was a more profitable business. I know that family & the eldest even went to my bachelor party. The real crying shame was seeing a large collection of 1940 Fords go bye bye, but quite a few other good cars like a 67 Nova SS, a row of 68-72 A Bodies, & several rows of mid 70's stuff were sent to the crusher. There's still a couple of cars left, but not much.

Re: here we go again
I'm getting the start of what looks like a snow storm. Indiana's supposed to get a couple inches of ice and a foot of snow, but that's probably a reeeeaaally big guess. It looks pretty tolerable so far.
Oh, and we don't have any decent wrecking yards around here. They all deal with stuff that's been recently wrecked. Most cars stay in the yard for a week then get scrapped. It makes finding Blazer parts a PITA.

Re: here we go again
We got over 2 ft of snow on the ground! I guess for you Northerners that's not much but definitely not common here. I had to shovel an 1/8 mile worth of driveway yesterday just to get out. Time for another 4wd I guess.

Re: here we go again
Two feet of snow in one snowfall is impressive...even for us Northerners. The difference is, you'll probably be rid of yours in a week. Ours will hang around till April...or May...or June...or?

Re: here we go again
Just think, if it had not been for this Global Warming thing you would have gotten 4 feet of snow. JBRago wrote:We got over 2 ft of snow on the ground! Ha...I'd like for Al Gore to come up here and help me shovel some more of his Global Warming! Just got done shoveling out what the snowplow left behind in front of the mailbox for the umpteenth time.

Re: here we go again
I'll bet that snowplow packed it in there real tight, no? JB

Re: here we go again
Oh yeah...when the plow comes through, it's usually packed in there pretty good. Then, if you don't get it cleared that same evening before the temps dip below zero, it sets up like a friggin' brick! You can then forget the snowblower...it's now time to break out the pick-axe!

Re: here we go again
SO very true, I have to shovel out my mailbox all the time. The snowbanks are higher then the mailbox and as you said the plow packs it.
I feel bad for you out west, The Weather Channel kept saying you were pounded.
