Anyone running a Lifted Elky?
I live out in the country, and everyone,I mean everyone in my neighborhood drive trucks.
I'm buying the Elky mostly for utility...traveling and shuffling parts to the machine shop, bringing parts back from Pull a Part, etc.
Looking for thoughts about lifting the truck and adding some big tires and a big block motor.
Anyone have their Truck lifted?

Re: Anyone running a Lifted Elky?
Opinions are going to vary wildly on this one, but in my opinion its not worth lifting one and adding bigger tires unless you have 4 wheel drive. Further, with the time involved it'd be easiest and often even cheapest to simply drop the body down onto a short box truck frame with everything already prepared for you. This would give you a unique trek vehicle to run dirt and gravel roads on mostly as you could have a better power to weight ratio than you would with the full truck body but still sit high and look cool.
For any other purpose, either keeping it low and just using it as a 2WD hauler or getting an actual truck to tow with would be best as the former can get good mileage and the latter will benefit from the extra weight while towing.
Just my train of thought on the matter.

I agree with Psychlonic on this. The whole purpose of having an El Camino and a full size pickup on the same showroom floor was to meet the needs of two differant groups of people. JB

Wow Jerry, nice buzzkill. While its not an elky, its at least 3rd generation. Hold your hand over the rear quarter of the car in the pic.

That car was on Ebay for two years.
So it made it to the Netherlands...

Re: Anyone running a Lifted Elky?
I saw it done tastefully a few years back. Met a guy at new England dragways super Chevy show with an 80's elcamino. He welded in leaf spring perches to the stock frame front and rear. Used blazer axles, and put the blazer tranny in for the t-case. It sat surprisingly nice, unlike a car frame on top of truck frame.

Re: Anyone running a Lifted Elky?
its never done tastefully, if it was it wouldn't have been done at all. Need a truck...buy a truck, don't ruin a classic car.

Re: Anyone running a Lifted Elky?
I get what you're saying, but it really was. I wish I had some pics. Yes, they're all classics, but without a little creativity, this hobby would suck! They weren't all born as big block, high optioned, limited production.......Some of them just need to be personalized. Its pretty hard to ruin a car. If you do a little planning all custom work is reversible.
