Fuel Tank Interchange
Hi, would 68-72 A-body or 77-96 B-body fuel tanks fit on a 73-77?

Re: Fuel Tank Interchange
I'm not sure, since the 73 Monte tank is different from 74-77, I'm sure same goes for other A-bodies as well. New tanks run about $150 or so, I'm about to drop one out of a 75 Monte to check it for gunked up old fuel.

It may not even be that simple. My Hollander Interchange manual shows the same tank for '71/'72, but a different tank for every year of Monte Carlo '73 thru '75; with '76/'77 sharing the same one. Pretty much the same story with Chevelles/Malibus with El Caminos and station wagons having different tanks, yet. For Cutlass and Century, they even differentiate between 2-dr and 4-drs during the '76/'77 model year. Haven't the slightest idea what the differences would be; other than maybe capacity and perhaps the baffle (or, lack thereof) inside the filler neck.
Hollander book I have only goes to '81 and they list different tanks than any of the "A" bodies for the various "G" bodies.

Re: Fuel Tank Interchange
the tank (without fill neck) it self is the same 73-77. (PER MONTES)
73 neck is by itself.
74 neck has a big filler hole (reg gas).
75 is the same neck as 74 but has a small filler hole (unleaded gas) with a flapper door.
76 and 77 are the same necks with small hole (unleaded gas) and have filler flapper doors.
reg gas nozzles were about an inch wide.
un-lead gas nozzles are about 3/4. (size we have today)

Re: Fuel Tank Interchange
Is there any way to siphon out the gas in a 74 model thru the filler neck? I tried running a rubber hose down the neck to get out old gas, but could not get it down the filler neck for some reason. I wish my tank had a petcock on the bottom so it w3ould be easy to drain out the gas. JB

Re: Fuel Tank Interchange
You should be able to siphon thru the neck, but if not - as easy as these tanks are to drop (barring rusty bolts), you can drop the tank using a jack, then siphon from the top once the sending unit is removed. Tranny jack works real nice.

Re: Fuel Tank Interchange
Is there any hardware availible for the tank straps? Or should I just throw in some nuts and bolts?

Its basic hardware, you can most likely find the same stuff or suitable replacements at an Ace Hardware.

Re: Fuel Tank Interchange
Are you talking about the two rear mtg brackets that the straps connect to? Probably just as easy to fabricate a couple.
