Re: prices
Today's dollar buys less than years past.
I have tendency to think in 1980s pricing when looking at these cars too. Then I realize that I just paid $4.59 for a gallon of gas...

Re: prices
$4.59? Holy S**t...I thought I was taking it in the shorts at $3.89!! Is it any wonder why nobody has any leftover disposable income to spend on our cars? Economy will never recover if people can't afford anything other than bare necessities.

Re: prices
Yep, Morgan Hill CA $4.59 gallon. About crapped my pants but had no choice. Glad I wasn't buying gas at this place over labor day weekend.

Re: prices
$1,500 & saved from F*****G Enduro racing.
Our cars have been under appreciated for a long time. It's about time they got some cred. I hope the prices keep going up, the dollar is weak but many cars were way overpriced from like 04 through 07. I saw a $150,000 Mopar mobile (Challenger or Barracuda?) sell @ mecum Dallas for about $65,000.

I bought my 76 malibu classic for $800.00 in 94, I got my wife's 77 malibu classic on ebay in 2009 for $995.00. I am allways looking for a deal on ebay and other web sites and prices have gone way up on the g3 gm cars big time in the last year or so.

Re: prices
Local guy to me is selling his 77 Monte...15k...
Here's the ad:
http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/3183819113.html
Seems a bit steep, but I'm sure someone will come along and buy it.

Re: prices
I bought my '74 Malibu Classic in 1990, for 1100 bucks. It came from Georgia, with zero rust.
Of course I put a lot of money in it for the restoration etc, but at least had a solid car to start with. It's never seen a Michigan winter of course. Hard for me to realize that I've had it for 22 years.....

Same here with my 77 Monte, 22 years for me too. It was 1500 bucks. The 73 was 4500 bucks I've had that 13 years too. Time goes by .

Re: prices
We paid $8800 for my 1974 Monte in July 2007.
After tax, title, and license it was creeping up on 10k.
My first car, the 1974 Chevelle was $3800. No where near as nice as the Monte, though.

Re: prices
I paid $850.00 for my 77 Camino in 1985 in Oregon. It too was a solid no rust - no damage car. Like Pila, it quickly surpassed 10K in restoration costs, and still needs more.
I've tried having appraisals done for my insurance agent and have gotten numbers that range from $1150.00 from a Chevy dealer, to $13,500.00 from a Carlisle sales broker. Still not sure if I have a classic or a white elephant. Good think I like it a lot.

I picked up my 77 for $300 in 2009.
I sold the 76 to the junkyard for 4 t-shirts after I parted it out in 2000.

Re: prices
Paid $5K for my '77 Monte Carlo back in '96. Bought it from wife's uncle...who was the second owner and who owned it for a whole 3 mos. before deciding he was going to sell everything in MN and retire to AZ. Told me at the time that he also paid $5K from his daughter's mother-in-law (original owner) and put about $1K into new tires, tune-up parts and a/c compressor. Figured I didn't have much bargaining room with that info. Amazingly, that same summer, I was offered $13K for it by an acquaintance of my brother-in-law. But remember, that was before the days of e-Bay, Craigslist and other online sites that made shopping/price comparing for cars like these very difficult...and, cars like mine in mint condition were virtually non-existent in MN...even back then.
