New fiberglass doors Dsc_1314 test fitting. Getting the handles to work was a little trick since the fiberglass is much thicker than metal. not a direct bolt on.

I also put rubber gaskets (aka inner tube cut to size) in between door hinges and door, and door latch to door. Basically between everything I had to bolt to the doors, to help absorb vibrations. Since it's driven on the street and the doors are "for racing only".

Thanks for the info. You have a great car there. One thing that I am sure you are aware of, roll bars need extra thick padding in the head area and race style seatbelts to be driven on the street. The reason I say this is because I heard of a guy who had a roll cage on the street and in a fender bender his head was crushed by the roll bar. Yes, I am sure you already knew this, but it was bearing on my mind. JB

I have thought many times about switching everything I could over to fiberglass to lighten my 74, but I want it to be a fully functional street car.  I want to be able to hop in take my family anywhere I want to go and I want to be able to roll up and down the windows. Can you do that with those doors?  You would have to use lexan? Love it btw!

Hey, thanks. they're not in the pics here but I do have 5 point harnesses in both front seats. And I do wear them every time I'm in it even if I'm going up the block. My wife bought the seat belts years ago and made me promise I'd wear them every time. Still haven't broken that one. lol And the padding, yeah, I have it on the "halo" part of the cage close to my head but other than that it's the only part of the cage that comes close even. The belts keep me from going pretty much anywhere. lol I've heard those stories too. Pains me just thinking about it.

I started building this car when I was living at home, before I even had a girlfriend, let alone wife and kid now. lol Yes, if I were to start another project today it would be different however I wanted this to be a race car. And that's pretty much what I'm getting. No heat (except engine heat coming through firewall, lol), no ac, stiff suspension, low ground clearance, bad gas mileage, lack of interior room due to cage...and so on. But it's one hell of a rush tearin up the streets on weekend nights. It does however have a cd player with aux for ipod and cruise control. Hahah! And no those doors do not allow for window regulators. With door panels and all the weight in at 35lbs. A big jump from the 115lbs for stockers. My dad's 76 has the same stock car theme but he retained all the factory streetable stuff. Heat, ac, no cage, lowered but not slammed, etc... I like to think of our cars as split personalities. lol
