Cheat at drag strip

Post by JB2wheeler on Wed Mar 03, 2010 1:03 pm

I would like to know if I can get by at an NHRA drag strip with keeping a 3/8ths inch thick rubber floor mat in the bed of my Elky. I would also like to know if I could get by with a special made rubber bladder that fits the bed of the truck that gets filled with water like a water bed and has baffles inside to keep water from sloshing around. Either of these two items will give me a big break coming off the line. The floor mat weighes about 100 to 125 pounds. Anybody think I could get by with this? It has been many years since I have been to a drag strip and I want to get there one more time before...while I can. JB

I doubt you will get away with a "waterbed" in the truck but the mat as long as its bolted at each corner I do not think they could / would say to much

Yea they will have a problem with the waterbed idea. I mean if it popped or sprung a leak then all of a sudden theres an assload of water all over the track they have to clean up, not to mention I think there would be alot of people not very happy with you. But you should have no problem with the bed mat, like Limey said, as long as its secured to the bed good.

Every person I've known to run an El Camino down the strip never had floor mats. Don't know if there's a reason for it or not.

one of my good friends had an el camino back in day when our track was pretty lienet on things. He pulled up there with a the back of the truck full of ice and beer. This was at our saturday midnight races (which was the locals all coming out and racing their junk) Big John was the announcer at that time (he died not to long ago RIP Big John) Well my buddy was out in the pits drinking all night handing out beers when someone smarted off saying they could smoke that junky el camino. they pulled up to the line (still drinking I might add) with the beer and ice still in the back of the truck. They were all staged and ready to go when the announcer big john goes WHOA WHOA hold on a minute, my buddy was like whoa nelly they not gonna let me run, well big john goes "hey tommy can we grab some beer" and hes like go ahead. well they grabbed the beer and then the race continued.
Our track now days wont even let you bring in your own beer, let alone drink and race.
JB I doubt theyd let you have any water in the back, you could probably use sand bags. but I dont see a problem with the bed mat
