Roof sheathing:

Site supervisor:
She’s only 4, but she can start a nail and hammer it in by herself. Might take 10 minutes, but she works for ice cream. Can’t put a price on that.

View from the West Side:

Air Handler:
I put the air handler above the existing garage. I know it usually goes in the attic, but there isn’t enough space between the trusses. A normal slope out here is 4/12, but that put my ceiling height at around 9-10 feet. So, I changed the slope to 3/12 and was able to increase the ceiling height to 14 feet.

Duct work:

Relocation of vents:
From Left to Right, you’re looking at the relocation of vents for; Gas Water heater, Bathroom exhaust fan, Dryer duct, Bathroom exhaust fan. The dryer ducting is the only one I am worried about. I did some research and all dryers have certain specifications regarding the maximum run/turns. The additional run and bends now exceed the maximum runs allowable. Since I don’t want the house burning down due to a dryer fire, I installed a Dryer Vent Booster Fan (not pictured). It operates via a air flow switch. When it senses air blowing by it, it turns on and stays on for 10 minutes after the incoming air has shut off. Hopefully it will do the trick.

Insulation:
So, the foam walls are R-24, the ceiling is R-38, and the common wall is R-15. Technically, I didn’t have to insulate that wall since it butts right up to the house. However, the master bedroom is on the other side of that wall, and I don’t want any complaints about loud noise when I’m working out there.

No matter the size, shape, or condition, they're all dog houses at some point and time. Smile

I know this doesn’t look like much, but you’re looking a gauge holding steady at 100psi. I ran copper tubes throughout the building for my air lines.

The air compressor will be outside, and the lines run through the ceiling/walls. I have two fittings coming out of the ceiling for drop down hose reels. One at the North end and one at the South end. There is also one on the east wall (pictured).

I also ran one quick disconnect into the existing house garage. My thinking there was that the system would always have air in it, and if I put a hose real in there, all the bikes, the car tires, or anything else could be aired up without having to go into the new garage. I figured it would also keep the wife and kids away from going in the new one as well. Very Happy

I also installed ball valves at the low points of all runs to drain any condensation that might build up. Water and air tools definitely don’t get along very well.

This was my first time I had ever sweated copper and am pretty proud of the fact that there are no leaks. Especially since I completely forgot to test the system before drywalling. Head Bang The system has been holding steady for 13 days now, so I’m pretty confident I’m good to go. Heck, the pressure even goes up 5psi in the afternoon once the heat hits.

Garage doors!
I went with 3” thick insulated Martin garage doors. They claim to have a R-14 insulation factor, so I’m hoping that is accurate. The North one is 16’ long by 12’ high, and the South one is a standard 8’ long by 7’ high.

South door inside:
I went with a vertical side mount opener to get the height I needed for the small door.

Lights:
I hate working on stuff in the dark. So I went with (12) 8 foot, 4 bulb, and (1) 4 foot, 2 bulb fluorescent lights with electronic ballasts and T-8 bulbs. I put them on two different circuits so that I could turn on just half of them if just walking through. Each circuit is wired to every other light instead of zones. Since there are three entrances into the garage, I put in 4-way switches, with a set at each door. So, no matter which door I enter from, I can turn on all the lights. The photos don’t do it justice…. It’s super bright inside.

The stack:

Half turned on:

All turned on:
