Pulled the Cover Off... Empty Pulled the Cover Off...

Post by jerry46765 Fri Mar 09, 2012 4:19 pm

The other day I snapped a few quick shots of my first car.
It is still stashed under a cover in my dad's shop and is late '80s fresh.
Maybe this fall when things calm down... Does it ever calm down?

Thanks -

Jerry

Yes, it's Firethorn red, the original color, and it's lacquer. The paint has held up lots better than the lacquer on my '74. I guess inside under a cover has one advantage.

That is one sharp laguna.

Yes, lacquer does hold up pretty well especially under cover. Not real chip resistant. Shot mine with lacquer in 1989 and it still has never been washed. After I do the frame swap and put the original stripes back on, I plan on shooting it with urethane clear. Probably next winter.

Lacquer can get brittle after it ages and if urthane is put over the top of it can create cracks and crazing. Notice I used the word "can" instead of "will'. JB

NICE !! Firethorn red is the color I painted my '74 Malibu, and the color that's going on my Elco project.

Thanks for the nice comments. Firethorn red looks like a million bucks in the bright sun. It has 8" Rally wheels all the way around. I did a tire swap being cheap. It orginally had 255-60R15s all around, and somehow I got new 275s from somewhere so I stuck those on. maybe a little wide on the front but they fit in the wheelwell and don't rub.

Yeah, that is an Aerocoupe in the background. It's the only car I don't have a cover on...

Thanks -
