Daily driver small block Chevy heads
For a daily driver you are kind of limited for a steel head for choices. There is always the choice of a stock Chevy 186 or 462 casting 64 cc 2.02/1.60 valve head. This usually becomes an issue by the time you do all the machine work and buy parts for the head. Replacement choices are the popular Vortec head which flows real well but needs a different intake on an older engine. They also need to be checked and sometimes modified for cam lifts over .480. The other choices available are World Products S/R torquer with a 170 cc runner, and the dart Iron Eagle series. These are available in 165 or 180 runner. If you are interested in aluminum runners in the 180 range is a good place to start looking.

Re: Daily driver small block Chevy heads
What I found when shopping for heads was that the intake ports on aftermarket heads for the most part were kinda big for a heavier car like my Monte Carlo and I didn want to sacrefice torque. I ended up using Vortecs brand new from Scoggin Dickey, the guides were modified from them in case I want to go with a different cam its no problem. 170cc ports and 64 cc chambers,it pulls pretty good!

That is a popular upgrade to a stock low compression 350 with 76cc heads. Going to a 58 cc boosts compression almost 2 numbers. That is a big gain. And with a stock engine, they don't have to go past 5000 rpm.dynchel wrote:I run #416 305 heads on my stock (bottom end) 350. Runs strong.
