Before I do something dumb...
Here's what I'm looking at.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/REV-107-RALLY-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-CORVETTE-ALUMINUM-POLISHED-LIP-17X7-17X8-17X9-/371607120993?hash=item568582ac61:g:HcoAAOSwh6xTsWfU&vxp=mtr
Rev Wheels 107 Chevy Rally
17x9
5 inch back space
5 x 4 3/4
Tires will be 285/40/17
All four corners, but I'm also thinking on 8 inch up front.
I've researched the Rev wheels a little and it appears as if they are pretty good quality and MUCH less expensive than other brands.
I mean c'mon, 4 aluminum wheels for $600-700??
I'm sure they are Chinese, but hell, so are Foose wheels.
I'm basing the sizes on G3Nut's Laguna because I ******* LOVE the way his car sits and intend to copy that stance:
https://www.g3gm.com/t9344-1973-laguna-big-block-4-speed
What say you G3GM?

Re: Before I do something dumb...
Do it I was planning on the same wheel and size (17x9 on all 4), but with a 275/40 cause they're easier to find and cheaper.

I too would go with the painted ones. I just think they look classier, if you will.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
If it were me, I would not buy a wheel with multiple bolt patterns in it. Typically the wheel hub diameter is huge (in order to fit everything) so all the load is on studs which is bad.
I had a set of aftermarket steel rally wheels with 4-1/2 and 4-3/4 bolt patterns and found one had developed a crack around bolt pattern area which I would not have caught if it wasn't for blistered paint. Yes, the car was thrashed but a steel wheel should take about anything. It looked like a combination of poor design and poor material. But I am not sure it would have cracked with only one bolt pattern in it.
The Ebay ad doesn't show bolt pattern area. See what the Summit price is for that wheel. They will take care of you if there is an issue, sometimes even a year later. Ebay won't do that.
Thanks -

Re: Before I do something dumb...
I can't find 17x9s with the right backspace and offset at summit, jegs, wheels vintiques etc. This Rev outfit seems to be the only company that makes them. Even the other companies that have them are Rev.
Would it matter that these are billet vs. steel?
Edit
I have found some others, but they are dual bolt patterns as well. Coker at $330 per wheel. And wheel vintique has steel at cheaper, but they are dual 5x4.75 and 5x4.5 as well.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
Wait a minute, is that Ebay ad $560 for four wheels?
Summit has one wheel for $440?
For that money, you could make hub spacers and keep $1000 in your pocket.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
That is not a bad price. You'll have to buy center caps but if yours fit then you'll be good. I'm going down to summit tomorrow and paying $427 for a set of 17x9 soft 8's. Then I have to take two of them up and have them widened for a total of $70, so I'll have $500 in steel soft 8's.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
That is cheaper than chrome steel Rally wheels. Hey, why not?

Re: Before I do something dumb...
The only other wheels I can find in 17x9 with the right backspace and offset that I would use are these:
1969-70 Chevelle SS- Magnum 500s
Or these:
Both are kinda Mustang-y though.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
Top ones are pretty nice (magnum 500) would look nice on that Chevelle. As far as the Rally wheels I think I would go polished.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
I too would do the polished. No matter how you take care of the chrome sooner or later rust will find a way.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
I've been studying on these wheels all weekend. I'm 90% on the polished rally.
FYI, most of them in 17x9 that are reasonable $ wise are dual bolt pattern.
I only found one example that was a direct fit and the cost was like 335 per wheel.
Ooof!

Re: Before I do something dumb...
Hey Roadcaptain, what ever came of these wheels? Did you get them? I ask because I am looking for the same thing and want to make sure you are happy with them before I get a set. I also was wondering if the backspacing worked as you expected?

Re: Before I do something dumb...
I have them. Rev 17x9 polished with "disc brake" caps and lugs. I got them from an outfit in TX. IIRC the whole package came in around $800.
I haven't mounted them yet because my garage looks like I'm a hoarder. My pole barn is going up right now so everything (including the new wheels) is stacked up.
It should be done this week if the rain holds off.
I'm still working out tire sizes too. PITA.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
That's awesome with the pole barn. I put mine up about 4 years ago and ive never been happier. Please let me know how the spacing on the wheels turns out and even what you decide on tires. Im going to hold off until then. I can just see me ordering 4 rims/tires and finding out they don't fit. I'd be beside myself!!!

Re: Before I do something dumb...
I'm pretty confident in the backspacing and wheel size since I more or less stole G3nuts ideas. It worked for him, should work for us.
I'm using this on tires:
https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc
I looked at the way a bunch of cars sat with 15x8 Rallys and Vette wheels and used their tire sizes as comparisons.
I'm close, just gotta get back to it and nail it down. I'm gonna get them on then decide whether or not to lower any.
I'll keep ya posted.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
This was the 18x9.5 wheel with 275/40/18 that I experimented with. It had a +1 offset which is real close to zero. I was not happy. I ended up with a 1 inch spacer behind it (the second picture). I ditched that set up and got the aluminum kelsey hayse vette wheels. I now have 17x9 soft 8's and had the rears stretched to 17x10. That should fill up the wheel wells nice.

I like the bottom pic better but I like a little more tite coming off the rim on the sidewall. Like the one laying on the floor in that pic.

Re: Before I do something dumb...
I thought I was going lower so I got conservative with the tire. That and I learned that some tires run big, some small. Who knew? I learned that a nitto 315/35/17 is smaller than a Mickey Thompson same size. Common core math maybe? 315mn is 315mm in my book.
