17 inch tires?
First question from new member. Looking for recommendations for tire sizes to mount on 17x8 and 17x9.5 wheels. Will be putting these on 77 Buick Regal which has been lowered 1 inch.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Hey. First off, welcome. I am doing the same search right now and I will share what I have learned. I am looking at using 17x9.5 fronts and 17x11 rears with 275/40/17 fronts (25.55" tall) and 315/35/17 rear (25.55" tall). I would like the tire to be a little taller so I am still searching. If you use the 275/40/17 on the rear and a 255/40/17 front (25.08" tall) you would have no problem. They would just be short tires that might show to much fender gap. Do you have a pic of how your car sits now? I have been searching 18" rim combo's but I can't find the width to height ratio that I am looking for. Look at this link. They have a 245/45/17 and a 275/40/17 that might be perfect. These tires have good reviews from what I have found and they are priced right. Hope this helps.

Re: 17 inch tires?
I know it's not a g3, but here's some 225/50 & 275/50s on my 67. The fronts are 25.8" and the rears are 28".

Re: 17 inch tires?
Looks great. The 28" tire in the rear really fills up the wheel well. I am looking at the 315/35/20 tires and they are 28.62". I have these on my 86 C10. Since this size is used on BMW and Porcshe suv's there are many brands out there.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Thanks RevinKevin your suggestion was exactly what the guy at the tire shop suggested as well. Will try to post new picture to show stance after lowering. Also considered 285-40-17 but selection from brands he carries wasn't that great.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Those look super sharp, well done. Can you share the specs on the wheels? I am looking for that same 17x8 front amd 17x9.5 rear and find info on the correct backspacing and offset for our cars is rather difficult. Thanks - ron

Re: 17 inch tires?
Ron my original plan had been 17x8 and 17x9.5 but due to some confusion between myself and the shop I ordered them from, I ended up with 17x8 4.5 inch back spacing for the front , and 17x9 5 inch back spacing for the rears. American Racing makes 2 versions of the Magnum Wheel which I bought, one version was 17x9 and the other was 17x9.5 the shop ordered the wrong version but by the time I finally got them I wasn't going to argue over a half inch in wheel size, so I just had them put on with the new tires.
I thought American Racing had a pretty good selection and they were very helpful when I called them.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Ahh i see. So with that 5 inch back space what offset did you end up with? How much room was in there? I am looking at ridlers 17x9.5 with 5 inch of back space tbay gives a -5mm offset for the rear.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Not sure on the offset but I have more then enough room for my set up.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Thanks for the info and help. Your car looks brilliant. I am starting on mine this week so every little bit of info helps 👍

Re: 17 inch tires?
Offset and backspacing are just different ways of describing the same thing.

Re: 17 inch tires?
I have 18" rims.
Rear : 295/ 45 's on the rear. Rear spring compressed , I have 3/8" clearance between the sidewall and fender lip. 5.25" backspacing
Front : 255 / 50 / 18 . 5.25 " backspacing.
I also have the B-body spindle upgrade which brings the two front tires inboard approx. 1/4".
But , I do still have 3/8" to 1/2" frame clearance lock to lock.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Impalamonte thanks for those measurements. It sounds like 17x9.5 and 5 inch back space should work just fine.

Re: 17 inch tires?
So far I've found that a 275-55-17 is 28.7" tall.
waiting on finding out what height the stock tire size was before I research more.

RE: 17" TIRES
I have a set of tires that are 235/50R17 but as of yet no wheels to go with them. They'll be going on a 76 Laguna S3 ( not Lowered ). Any suggestions on what wheels ( width & offset ) I should be looking for? I'm wondering if these tires would even be a good fit for this type of car. Also, I'm wondering if anyone makes ralley wheels in the 17" size ??

Re: 17 inch tires?
Those tires look like they would be about 1" shorter than the factory tires (26.2" vs 27"). Personally if the car wasnt going to be lowered, Id want a tire that was at least stock height (or taller) to help fill out the gigantic wheelwells these cars have.
Are you looking for this style rally wheel? https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/681240/10002/-1

Yeah, those wheels look like what I'm thinking about. The original ralleys were all steel of course with the aluminium trim rings and caps and i'm assuming they don't make them in any other size than 15". Those wheels you're referring to , the outter 'ring' ,, is that a polished part of the aluminium wheel and not separate ? Who actually makes those wheels for Jeggs and are there other companies that make those or similar wheels ?
What I have on my car now is what I bought the car with. It has 15" IROC wheels with 235/60 - 15's that seem to actually measure less than 26.2" so it looks like I'll probably end up with a little more tire in the 'hole'. I'm not sure how wide those IROC wheels are from rim to rim though.
I appreciate your quick response and sorry for all the follow up questions.

Re: 17 inch tires?
Yes its part of the wheel. No clue who make them for jegs but if I had to guess either vision wheels or us wheels76LagunaS3 wrote:

No problem, like i said you may want a taller tire if staying at stock ride height to help cut down on the monsterous wheel well gap these cars have.
Heres my '73 for example with a 27" front and 28" tall rears (with 15" rims) and stock suspension.
And a random shot of my '67 on 17" wheels with a 26" front and 28" tall rear, but its been lowered a bit.

17” Tires
Those 17” rally wheels and center caps came today. Jeggs ships fast !! When the weather breaks here I’ll take the Laguna go the tire store to put the new shoes on. Hopefully by then I’ll figure out how to post pictures

Re: 17 inch tires?
looks like i figured it out . as you can see, it may need to be lowered some. wheels are more period correct now. Now I just gotta find someone who'd like to buy some IROC wheels taking up room in my garage.
