I drove my first Lincoln today.
1979 Continental Mark V. Rides so nice, makes my Monte seem like a truck.
I can honestly say, (if) having no driving experience with a Monte or a Mark V, and someone said drive each, take which one you like better. It'd be a Mark V.
Cool experience!
Jus' sayin'.

Re: I drove my first Lincoln today.
The 73 LTD that I just sold was the same basic car as the Lincoln and it rode nice and solid. I am inclined to agree with you. Last year I was thinking about buying a new "used" Caddy and went to the lot in the LTD and tried the Caddy and it rode hard enough to jar your teeth compared to the LTD. JB

Re: I drove my first Lincoln today.
My first car was a Lincoln, a 1937 Lincoln Zephyr coupe ! And right after I bought that one, I bought a 1940 Lincoln Zephyr club coupe ( back seat in that one), more room for girls & beer. The '40 had the original V-12. They did ride batter than the usual Furd or Chevy of that period, but not a cushy as a Buick Road Master of that era.

Re: I drove my first Lincoln today.
I like alot of the fords and lincolns but its too bad that the mark V or any Furd would just piss you off and drain your wallet everytime you have to work on it, when the monte would actually be enjoyable to work on.

They did have some miserable stuff going on .Those Motorcraft carbs still suck. I like the 69-71 Mark III a lot but its trouble waiting to happen. There is a reason why GM sold so many more cars back then .

Did you ever test drive one of those '37/'38 Grahams back in the day? Were they considered upscale cars back then?

Re: I drove my first Lincoln today.
I had a triple black '79 Town Car, a triple black '79 Town Car for parts for the black one but could never get myself to chop it up since it would not give up on me. Also had a '75 Mark and a '96 Town Car. Had one Cadillac, a '76 Fleetwood.
All of them, felt like you were driving your couch with marshmallow tires. The '78 LTD wagon I have feels damn near close to that ride.

Re: I drove my first Lincoln today.
I've never driven a Graham, but Ive driven a few late Lincolns. There's an old Lincoln for sale down the road from me, but not sure what year it is. It's a 4-door big car, but not the boxy style. Looks like it would be a good over the road car. I might be interested in it if I didn't already have too many cars and projects.

Mmm....Travis, the suicide door Lincoln Continentals did not start until 1961.
Holy hell, did anyone see the 1932 Lincoln Roadster on Pawn Stars last night?
My girlfriend was checking my chin for drool.

The Mark III looks very repair/restorable.
The Mark V looks like a total loss...parts car.

Thats just depressing to see. Imagine how many other vintage cars are in the same or worse condition.

Re: I drove my first Lincoln today.
Unfortunately, I don't have to imagine. I've seen countless cars pop up recently on CL that were damaged in the tornado. Driving through Joplin is even worse. I just started a thread about the damage.
