K-frame braces?
Hey, guys. I have replaced my exhaust manifolds with headers on my 77 El Camino, and cannot fit my K-frame braces around the headers. What's the level of importance to have these connected? They seem like very sturdy metal, not like those fender braces under the hood that run to the cowl. Thanks for your help! I'm sure this has been discussed many times.

Re: K-frame braces?
I have a 77 Elky w/ headers. I'm not quite sure what you are referring to by K frame braces. If you are referring to the tube steel tubing that bolts on the frame rails at the bends under the firewall, I had mine removed years ago with no issues. I did have some custom ones made that have a curve to fit around the headers, but have yet to put them on.

Re: K-frame braces?
Yeah, my '77 Elco had them off for years, after the header install. Not sure it's a good idea, but it didn't seem to be a problem. My current Elco project has them on, since they aren't in the way. No headers.....just manifolds on the Caddy engine.
And I have an extra pair of those braces if anyone wants them.

Mine have also been off since the 80's without a problem. Did loads of racing without them and no issues either. I think if you put on shorty headers you can keep those braces. Just a thought.

Re: K-frame braces?
For what it's worth, never even heard of them but if they were "heavy" they must serve some purpose. Is this a "Big block" thing?

Re: K-frame braces?
There not real heavy and definitely not a big block thing. I've had 8 73's and they all had them.

I've had 22,73-77montes. They all had them.
