Bought a truck

Post by BlackChevelleSS on Tue Sep 28, 2010 11:45 pm

well heres my new project. Its a 1988 s10 tahoe 4x4 baja, yes its a real baja.
I got it cheap and ive always wanted a mini truck 4x4, but i wanted a ext cab not a single
plans are to swap in a vortec 5.0L with lt1 cam and tbi intake. gonna be fun im trying to keep the gas mileage and enough power to pull something better than the crummy 4.3L
2" body lift maybe a 2" suspension and 31-33" a/t tires around on some aluminum rims.

Im looking for parts right now. I need 2 4.3L steel 4x4 s10 oil pans, also need the v8 engine mount plates, and just in case I want a v6 tbi intake.

heres the pics

I got a 1988 ext cab S10 recently. Razz

Seriously though if you need some tips, I've owned four of them. With a TB crank, AAL, & some Interco tires, my 93 Jimmy was keeping up with Heeps.

Here's some local stuff:
complete frame, might have mounts? - http://joplin.craigslist.org/pts/1977798469.html
Parting out one - http://joplin.craigslist.org/pts/1976564914.html
$50 topper - http://joplin.craigslist.org/pts/1969530856.html
V8 oil pan, stock oil pan, throttle body - http://joplin.craigslist.org/pts/1961855446.html

I'll keep an eye out. These things are a "dime" a dozen, LMAO! Sorry for the pun. A couple of months ago, there was a complete V8 conversion with headers, mounts, radiator & all for $150. They also had a fiberglass cowl hood for $100! If only I would have known that I'd end up back in one.

Cool lookin little truck...

Never seen one (BAJA) before.

Not many of that generation S10 left anymore. Especially here in MI. Can't remember the last time I saw one.

Must be in the wrong part of the country. I see at least 5 pass me on the way home from work every day..... maybe not Baja's, but first gen S10s.

They all rotted out here in MI. Lol. Drive around here, there are hardly any older cars for daily drivers. The only old cars you see are at car shows. The road salt here just killed them all. And the few you do see around, you wonder how they're still putting along.

The aluminum wheels are an option, so is the spare tire and tail gate net.

Well im gonna put together a v6 if I can find the stuff. TBI v6s are a little hard to find.

and im gonna start to build a v8 to put in it one of these years. 5.0 or 5.7 also know where a 5.3L LS motor is thats really tempting.

Nice truck. The Bajas are pretty rare too...think of it like that body style's ZR2, only crappier Razz

You'd be surprised about how much power you'd get out of the 4.3. On stock parts they're good for 300 or so horsepower. Sure, you'd get more power out of the v8, but the 4.3's already there.

Is it a 2.8 truck or 4.3?

If it's a 2.8, grab a 3.4 out of a 93-95 Camaro, a 2.8 TBI intake, & a 4.3 TBI unit. All of these parts are on CL right now.

If it's a 4.3, there's a few complete motors on CL as well for cheap. Hell there's a complete 96 Blazer for $250 in Tulsa if I remember correctly. Just been rolled & had the trans pulled. Skip the TBI & go for either CPI or 96+ vortec with the computer. I can vouch for the CPI motor's power. I managed to get about 250hp out of one with a little PnP & some cheap mods.

V8s are overrated in S10's. Be different.
