Opinion needed, #27

Post by JB2wheeler on Wed Jul 20, 2011 5:06 pm

I have photoshopped out the rocker molding on the following two pics. I know, its a lousy job. Which do you think looks the best, with or without. JB [img][/img] [img][/img]

I like it better without and mine will also be coming off the car as long as I dont find any surprises under it

I have been leery of all the excess chrome on this car for a long time. Trouble is I love chrome! I believe it would look better without it. I am even tempted to remove the next horizonal chrome strip shaped like an "L", but dont want to go that far with it. JB

My Malibu had the rocker trim, but was it not in good shape, so during restoration I didn't put it back on. I personally like it, but it's hard to find some good moldings. My Elco project isn't gonna have them either.

And that El Camino in the pic is a beauty !!

I think you could get away with removing it on the Camino because there isnt a piece on the front or rear already. As long as everything is smooth and the edges are crisply done underneath, it would look great.

I would like to point out, for those who do not know, that the red and white Elky pictured belongs to Jerry. I used his photo because it had the right profile. My Elky is green & white. The wheel well moldings are differant from cars with the rocker moldings and ones without them. I have a set of OEM new moldings in the attic of my garage, but it has been so long since I bought them that I do not remember which kind they were. JB

the rocker trim removal takes some of the visual height out of the body. with the trim it makes it look like it sits higher and longer.

I took the trim off my 76 just to see what itd look like long ago, and decided the trim needed to stay esp. with the belt line molding down the center of the doors.

That confirms my thinking. It makes the L shaped chrome strip look like it sits higher on the body than it actually does and that is exacrtly what I am looking for. JB

JB,
Keep the moldings. They add "flavor" to the look of the car. My $0.02. afro

I personally like them but that is all the crome my car currently has right now. The trim was painted over by the last owner. I plan to remove all trim or paint it all left except the rockers. I am still up in the air about the bumpers may paint them or recrome after cut and tuck.

Taking it off makes the car look heavier. I'd keep it on.
