anyone have a Gm Performance 454 or 502 in a 73-77?
Hi, does anyone have a Gm Chevrolet Performance 454ho,zz454, 502ho, or a zz502 in a 73-77 A-body? I would like to get one for my 77 442 but need to know if the 6 quart truck pan that it comes with will fit our chassis? I know that it wont fit 68-72's or Camaros, but heard it will work in a Monte? There is alot of contradicting info about this so I would like to hear from anyone that actually has this setup..Thanks

Welcome to the site!!!
I'm finishing up a install of a Gen 6 454 which is what the crate motors you have listed are. I didn't try to fit the truck pan that it came with. I took some measurements and it will sit to low to the ground. I went with a Summit pan kit and it fits like a glove. It hangs about 1/4" below the front crossmember. Well made with no leaks. If you are using anything other than a Th 400 or 4L80, Make sure the flexplate is of the dual pattern type. I found out the hard way.

The truck pan doesn’t fit in any car chassis. Get a car pan and save yourself the headache trying to fit it.

Kinda thought I was gonna have to replace the pan. Wonder why they build them with truck pans when most crate 502's go in cars...The beauty of buying a crate motor is to drop it in and go. I may look into Blueprint crate motors?

The one piece seal big blocks came out long after GM put the last big block in a car. Guess they didn't want to invest in the tooling for a car pan. The earlier one piece crate motors didn't come with a fuel pump boss or clutch pivot stud hole either. The newer ones have both due to customer gripes.

I have just installed the zz502 in my 73 Monte. I it´s not a big deal to change the pan, to an aftermarket one. Morroso makes a pan and oil pickup that are fairly easy to install...
