Re: Elcofest 2023
Wow, I have never heard about this show and my daughter has recently just moved from South Bend! I would have loved to planned a trip to see her and make the show.

Re: Elcofest 2023
I wish you had known. This is the second year, but I only learned about it this year through a posting on el camino central. Their main media venue is Facebook, which is no help to me. The total number of cars was about 108, double that of last year, so they will do it again no doubt. I will post something here when they announce details for next year.
The big raffle prize was a stage 2 built 5.3 with transmission, and it was won by one of our 4th gen guys, a kid with a rough truck he’s been working on and part-hunting for for 5 years now, the brown one with side pipes pictured above. He was speechless when he won it. It was awesome to see a young person so excited about the hobby. He’d been talking about wanting to make something he could race—well, now he can do it.

Re: Elcofest 2023
From your pictures, it looks like about 8 4th gen El Caminos. What gen had the most there? My guess would be the 5th gen

Re: Elcofest 2023
Yes, mostly 5th gen by far. Great diversity though, stock, modded, pro-street, some donks, some 4x4s, some rat rods. And genuine appreciation of the diversity.

Re: Elcofest 2023
Didn't the El Camino change body platforms from A to G in the middle of the 5th Gen run? That's rather unusual isn't it for generations? For myself a change of platforms means a new Gen.

Re: Elcofest 2023
You are correct and make a valid point about changing platforms vs a new generation. The A body was relisted as a G body in name in 1982 but the actual body stayed the same from 1978 until the end of production in 1987. The Monte continued for a short time for the 1988 model year.76Chevelle2Tone wrote:Didn't the El Camino change body platforms from A to G in the middle of the 5th Gen run? Re: Elcofest 2023
crice63, I meant to ask this earlier, did you have an El Camino at the show?

Re: Elcofest 2023
I took the dark blue 77. It's second in the parking line. The Louisiana sun has not treated it nicely, but I got it running and driving OK. I put 2600 miles on it all told, used about 2 quarts of oil, which I consider to be pretty good. Averaged 14 mpg, with the all-highway miles about 17 mpg running at 80-85 mph mostly. Right before I left I swapped the master cylinder and both rear drum cylinders and my bleeding job was incomplete, so when I left the brakes were a little soft. I stopped at Jackson and had a place bleed them correctly and they were just right after that. I keep thinking I want to sell this one but it is so nice to drive.
