how do from KY
hi folks. new member here from the redneck capital of the free world, kentucky.
been a long time fan of the pontiac can am, just never liked the colors, or the way GM had to equip it. so, this stage in my car life led me to a really decent 1977 lemans coupe, that will be added to the list of my already over-booked projects. i am an avid mopar guy, so, i am used to rust, and often hard to find/expensive parts. par for the course with any i guess......

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see you've been sucked into the G3 vortex. Give us more details about your Lemans and more pics too.

Re: how do from KY
Welcome! You have to start somewhere, need help with Pontiac info there are a few here, including me (even though all I have now is Chevy and GMC). I have had a 1972 Trans Am (4-speed) and a Grand Prix or two. I really like the Pontiac 400

Re: how do from KY
Hey. I am a big Lemans/Can Am fan. I remember when my dad bought his 1977 Grand Prix. They had a couple of Lemans on the lot and a Can Am picture on the wall. I really wanted him to get a Can Am but he got the SJ. You have a blank canvas to begin a masterpiece with there. What are your plans for the car? Since it is a very low option car you could build your version of what the Can Am was supposed to be. 455, Turbo 400, and.342 gears. I have a super good friend that has a Hurst Olds with a 455 that he is working on. If you need some help finding parts and ideas, well then, you have come to the right place. Good luck.

Re: how do from KY
REVINKEVIN, plans are for a "mild" 455, a 700R4, and yes, 3.42 gears. i had an 80 trans am here (very rusty parts car) that i robbed the skaker assembly, F41 f/r rear sway bars w/bracketry, the rear disc brake setup, and the auburn, clutch posi 3.08 geared rear guts. i also kept all the ground effects, including the fender scoops. i have 3 complete sets of rear spoilers, so, i can transform parts from those into my rear spoiler.
fasnur, looking good so far.
for now, i am going to install the shaker assembly, and the rear spoiler. i added the rally II's and used tires, as the car came with steel wheels and dog-dish caps.
when i said it sat under a carport 22-23 years, i meant, untouched, started, moved, or anything. ole girl just sprang back to life 2 weeks ago after a long, long nap..lol

I think this is the car you bought. The ad is down but I seem to remember seeing it here.

Man we have some detective work going on here. I remember that car. It has the rare trunk light option. I was wanting that car for myself awhile back. Great job 73SS & g3chevy on your automotive CSI skills. You two are a better team than the two in the movie ‘The Other Guys’. I can’t wait to see this car with a 455.

I believe I posted it in the classified section when I was scoping out interesting Craigslist Classifieds.
Caught my attention because it was close to me.

Re: how do from KY
actually, you are all correct, funny is,..that was my post on craigslist!!!! i had brought the car home, and was undecided if i wanted to build or sell it, so, i ran it for a few weeks, changed my mind and decided to kep it...lol. now, its a project along with the rest.
i bought it from the original owners daughter for $600. i got all the original papers from where her dad bought it new. sadly, it sat under that carport over 22 years. the plus side is, a fresh battery, tires, and fluid changes, and she is a turn key daily driver right now. sure glad i decided to keep it!!!!

Re: how do from KY
and yes, the can am spoiler is pricey. guy in st.louis craigslist has one for sale, with damage for $400. i am going to chop up 2-3 trans am rear spoilers to make mine.
