Got my 396 apart
Man just went to install the cam but looks like im gonna have a fresh bottom end in this thing. We pulled the rod caps just to check and it was horror. Cant believe it didnt spin a bearing. When I pulled the rod cap and bearing I could move the bearing side to side about an 1/8th inch. So new Clevite H bearings for the new resized rods and new Clevite P main bearings as they were alittle chewed by dirty oil. Ended up finding 3 that were real bad the other 5 looked good and miked good. Dont know why those 3 were so horrible. And to wonder Sunday I had this thing spun up to 6900-7000 rpms. The machine shop said they cant believe it didnt spin the bearing and if it didnt it would have happened real soon. So Im glad I decided to change the cam and check the bottom. The oil pressure was great too. This might help my overheating problem.... Man this really sucks But I did find out that I do have expensive TRW forged pistons with a pretty good knuckle on them...

Re: Got my 396 apart
not much, bearings and gaskets are cheap but converting to solid roller was the expensive part. I think I spent $60 in gas tho traveling around getting parts and going from home to the shop...
