fan to radiator....... Empty fan to radiator.......

I mounted the core support and fan shroud today on the El Camino, to check clearance on the front of the engine ( Caddy 500). Had to trim the shroud on the bottom to clear the crank pulley and belts down there. Alternator is around 3/4 inch from the shroud, but may need trimming later when front clip is all together.
The fan is about 4 inches from the radiator core position. Don't know what the ideal didstace is there.(??) The fan is an 18 inch 7 blade with a clutch. Seems like 4 inches would allow enough room for reasonable air flow through the core (??)

I think the most important part is if the shroud fits around the fan correctly.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The 18 incher fills the shroud quite well etc.

as long as the fan is half in and half out of the shroud, you are good.

I'll just have to see how it cools as is. Trying to keep moving on this project. I was 79 on Monday, and hope it's on the road before I'm 80!! Gotta get on to hanging the doors. They weigh 115 lbs, and are 59 1/2" long! But ya gotta love 'em!! A friend has a dolly for hanging/removing doors, which I may use.

Here's a pictorial history on this project, which started in June of last year (2009)

Doors weigh 115 pounds? Are you sure they are not one thousand and 115 pounds? Seems like it to me. Keep up the good work. You are the only one on here that is older than I. JB
