Can anyone help with a CCC carb and distributor question? Doing an intake and carb swap on my brothers 87 monte carlo ss. Has the stock 305 in it. What I'm learning is that the distributor and carb are computer controlled. I can ditch the carb, but I'm hearing i need to swap to the old style vacuum advance distributor. And add a lock up kit for the converter. Its getting an edelbrock intake and carb. I'm gutting all the emission equipment. Anyone have any experience with this swap?

That's a very common swap. The folks on the El Camino forum do it all the time on the later El Caminos.

I have a nice solid cast iron intake that should fit, has a crossover- non vortec, (85-90% cleaned up- needs paint), you welcome to it if you want.

Thanks for the input guys. I've been doing a lot of reading on other forums and such. Seems like just the old school distributor swap will take care of the timing advance. And the lock up kit I can buy from summit.

@77Mali- I appreciate the offer! I bought my brother a brand new edelbrock intake and carb for his monte. Sort of "rent" for Ethel staying at his garage all this time.

This is his Monte. He's had it since 1990. Has about 80k on it. Used to be black until a plow truck pushed a snowbank into the rear quarter. Was painted in '93
