Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
Wonder if a 75 rear bumper shocks are the same length as a 74?

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
I would guess so since (I think) the bumpers are the same.driveit wrote:Wonder if a 75 rear bumper shocks are the same length as a 74?

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
I believe 74 rear bumpers are 1 year only. Correct me if I'm wrong. Shocks may work but bumpers have different shape.

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
Nope...'74 & '75 bumpers are the same. However, for some reason, Hollander Interchange shows different part numbers for rear bumper shocks. Could be due to something simple like position of a mtg bracket.

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
Only difference in '74 & '75 rear bumper part numbers is the rubber impact type, according to my parts catalog.
Later Malibu bumpers have a metal bumper filler. I have one of those around here. Even the metal filler would be easy enough to alter to fit, by cutting & welding.
I think I'll leave my bumpers alone though, even though I like the look of the recessed mod.

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
On the 75 I have the rear bumper is different. My 74 has notches on each side for dual exhaust to exit, but the 75 is just straight across the bottom. I hope the shocks are the same. I may try and do that swap this summer.

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
Not sure from your description what you've got on either one...but, they are the same for these two yrs. Confirmed by Hollander Interchange and these pics I have of a '74 and my '75. Perhaps you've got a '76/'77 style on your '75?

73 & 75 A$$ ends are my two favorites on Chevelles. Â The 73 is just "Cool" & the 75 is the cleanest looking with a nice simple bumper & lights. IMHO.

I really don't like the back up lights in the middle of the 74 tail light. Other than that it's a nice shape & such.

You know I never really thought about it. Â I just looked at my tail lights and I agree, the backup lights do look a little funky.77mali wrote:I really don't like the back up lights in the middle of the 74 tail light. Â Other than that it's a nice shape & such.

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
LMAO John.
This is the best I can explain it. The one in the middle is still Lovely, just a bit different.

Tucking in that bumper
As the SS restoration and rebuild gets closer to being finished, the bumper tuck worked as I wanted. Did not need the filler under the grill so just recut and mounted the filler pieces under the headlights.

These are all the original pieces off the car, just lots of polish, jewellers rouge, sweat.

Nice work. Â No more park bench.......but that may not always be a good thing.

Re: oe looking tucked bumpers
I tucked both rear bumpers on both my and my dad's 76. I think the thread on here is called "new paint" if you want to take a look. Wasn't too complicated but just depends on the look you're going for I suppose.
