Cosole Discoloration
On an Elky I'm looking at the interior is in great shape except the console. What would cause this? I guess it could be re-dyed? Is that white underneath the black the way it comes from the factory before dying the part?

Re: Cosole Discoloration
Looks like scratches in the pic, not just discolored (my eyes aren't that great though) or maybe it's been painted over & the black is coming off?
If it's peeling paint- not a bad fix...scratches on the other hand are difficult to fix & have it look "factory perfect" after.

Those console parts are not dyed at the factory. They are molded in whichever color is intended for the car's interior. With that said, I don't know if I've ever heard or seen a white or almond colored console pad. As Mali states, if it's peeling paint, you'll need to lightly scuff off as much loose paint as possible and redye it. My fear with redying anything that's already been dyed once is wondering how solid is the base paint that remains after prep work. In other words, is it just a matter of time before it starts to flake off and ruins your new paint job.

You think it could be a repo? I'm not sure if they even make an aftermarket console?
Also how about the rest of the plastic parts? Do they also come from the factory molded the color intended for the interior?

Re: Cosole Discoloration
Console tops are not being reproed. If it's truly white underneath, it's either some sort of primer/vinyl prep...or, it was painted white before it was painted black.
All interior plastic/vinyl was molded in designated interior colors; except the underdash vent ducting for a/c cars...which, for whatever reason, was molded in black and sprayed whichever interior color was needed.

Mine is lightly peeled in two places, but its not that color underneath. Maybe its had a couple dye jobs? Ive not seen one peel and be that color underneath. I too have never seen a white top either. Usually almost always black, with an interior matching bottom.
