Bent out of shape!
Monday night on my way home from renting some movies I decide to take the scenic route and just kinda cruise slowly home.
Just enjoying driving the Chevelle and about half way I notice this guy about to pull out in front of me.
At this point I am way to close to slow down so I decide to gun it and try to get out of his way. Guess what?
Didn't make it! ....... Had to wipe a way a tear there!
Guy hits me in the passenger quarter. Breaks the center cap into several pieces dents up the ring and the wheel itself.
Dented a bit in front of the wheel. Huge dent in quarter behind the wheel.
Dented my new exhaust tip. Scratched large gouges in the bumper and split the fenderwell on the inside of the trunk.
Good new is, everyone was OK. The guy that hit me said he thought my turn signal was on.
I don't know about you, but I don't know how he expected me to make a 90 degree turn going 45 - 50 mph.
I fear that I will not get anywhere near the money for it that it will take to correct the damage.
Plus you can't buy the bumper. At least not that I know of.
Prayers please?

Re: Bent out of shape!
You got it! At least you're okay!
Sucks, though -- we know how hard you've been working on it.

Re: Bent out of shape!
I think I remember seeing new bumpers for sale, Maybe I'm just getting old. Try to make his insurance company repair your car or buy another one just like it. Then buy back your present car for scrap. I bought back a near mint 1988 New Yorker for $125 from the insurance ompany and then put a used doghouse on it. JB

Re: Bent out of shape!
Man, that's my worst nightmare (car related). Prayers a definite.
Can't you file an insurance claim to get it fixed? Seems like the other guy's insurance should be on the hook for the repairs, no?

Re: Bent out of shape!
Ky is a "no fault" insurance state. More people have been cheated out of a legitimate claim than you can type one line of numbers on a sheet of paper. JB

Re: Bent out of shape!
You could get a used bumper & have it re-chromed. New stuff for G3's is usually hard to find....

Re: Bent out of shape!
Hopefully the other guys insurance will pay, I am just not sure what they will pay. I am sure that it will not be enough to fix it, but we shall see.

Re: Bent out of shape!
I thought the whole idea behind the "no fault" policy some states have enacted was that your own insurance co. payed the damages; regardless of who was at fault.

I thought the same thing Mcarlo77
It may depend on who he has insurance with. Places like Hagerty and Grundy see ours cars as we do they are classics. The average ins company will view it as a old car and nothing more.
This is why I have a agreed Value placed on all my classic cars. My red 73 has a value of 22K on it. So if some bone head takes me out like like Driveit had happen to him I would get 22K for my ride. I even have the 74 that has made two trips around the block insured for 6k and its just a shell right now. You can up the coverage as you get more done they just want photos of your progress.
I have been with Hagerty for 15 years. The first time I drove my 56 Chevy the hood flew off and caved the roof in. They had not even received my check yet and covered it all with no delectable.
just my 2 cents here.

Re: Bent out of shape!
I had a car totaled by a crazy moonbat type. We were both covered by the same insurance company & at first they offered me $5500. I fought with them and showed them some true market values from Ebay- car dealer sites & places like Edmunds, KBB, etc...it was a bit of work but I got a check for $8,000. Which helped & turned into my down payment on the next daily driver. NEVER take their first offer- they try to get off as cheap as they can- find every receipt you have for it especially anything within the past year.

Re: Bent out of shape!
Thanks everyone for all of the insight. I hope to get the police report tomorrow so I can get in contact with his insurance company.

Re: Bent out of shape!
Finally talked to the appraiser on Tuesday. He said the appraisal should be ready today. Have not heard from him yet. I fear the worst!
