Monte a big hit at family reunion
Since the car was finished a few weeks ago I've been driving it around and to work . Had some people comment about it when I park up and other old car drivers give me a wave as they drive by.
Last Saturday we took it to my girlfriends family reunion . I painted it the same color as her dads monte he had back in the late 70's . When i parked i saw a group of teenagers playing basketball and as soon as I got out the car I heard one say " I'm fixing to guy buy that car that just pulled up" . That was just the start of it . I couldn't even get to get something out the trunk with out this other guy getting all over the car and asking me about it .
Within an hour of being at the reunion I had about six more people tell me how nice the monte was and that I'd done a nice job . Had a bunch of pics on my phone to show anyone who wanted to see them . Some of the older guys remembered the monte my girlfriends dad had back then and thought it was cool I'd done it the same buckskin tan as his .
So anyway it was a good feeling getting all the positive comments that night and it brought back some good memories for some of the family .
Just thought I'd share

That's one of the coolest things about these cars. The "A" bodies were a very popular car back in the day and lots of good memories for many people. Since there are so relatively few of them left, it's a novelty to those who haven't seen one in years and it usually brings back a flood of memories they are eager to share.
I once had a guy come up to me at a service station and proceed to tell me he used to have a '77 Monte exactly like mine (swivel seats and all) and had photos taken of he and his new bride with the car on their wedding day. You could tell he thoroughly enjoyed reliving that memory!
Makes all that work worthwhile...doesn't it?! Nice job!

Ditto -- you did an awesome job, and in record time!
I constantly get "I/My parents/My friend had one of those. I loved that car." Happens at the cruise, in parking lots, and even at stop lights. I've had people show up in my driveway with offers to buy it.
Enjoy the ego strokes -- you earned 'em!

All those compliments & the Rally Wheels aren't even on it yet, LOL.
Don't you dare sell it though! Deserves to be a ROTW pic on the site IMHO.
