I just learned of another choice in rwl tires.  In case you don't want BFG's, coopers, or mastercrafts.

Interesting. Never knew they had those sizes. They probably should advertise them in Car Craft or Hot Rod.

You can't beat that pricewise.  The guy who told me about them said he knows a guy with a C3 corvette who road races and these preform much better that the bfg's he replaced.

IMO, I believe anything performs better than BFG's at least for tires where those sizes are wanted. My biggest complaint was the tread would seem to get almost plastic like ( easy to break traction). Even with some spirited burn outs they wouldn't get any stickier. Just my opinion.

I ran 295 60 16" BFG on the rears and no matter how many burnouts you did, they never got sticky. I get tires at work at cost, we sell mostly Mastercraft, have Hankook tires on the wife's Sebring, they handle really well, and ride smooth. I'd put them on the Chevelle without hesitation. Going with 17" this time around.

I have 295/50/15 mastercraft avengers & I like them.  I also get tires at cost, and iirc I paid $120.00 a piece for them.

265/50s are about 1.25" shorter than 295/50s.   25.5" vs 26.7" tall

50 series tires just don't look right on the front... Too thin of a sidewall.

It looks like 265/50/15, 275/60/15, & 295/50/15 are what's available.

I like the price of them but I like the compound and design of the raised white letters of Hankook a lot better they look more like the old school letters of yester year,  I will pay a little extra for that.

I also LOVE the old school tire designs...come to think of it,I was actually IN school in those "old school" days.No offense to Corky Coker but "Golly geez Wally, why so high on your prices for us car guys on a hot rodders budget?"

As a side note I like the Hankook design also.I say they nailed it on "the look."They would also look perfectly at home on a 70's custom van.
