Help with headers
So, I got those hooker comp headers all rust free from the electrolysis bath last week. Went to install them, and no go, they hit up against a support strut on the frame. I ordered some cheap hedman headers that are supposed to fit our cars (https://www.summitracing.com/parts/hed-65101) and same thing on the driver side. I haven't tried the passenger side.
The previous frame I had did not have the support struts, so the hookers fit. I would really like to not remove these strut bars. What headers are others using (part numbers) and do you still have the strut bars? If so, are you denting the pipes? I'm assuming I'll have to return these. Everything is an issue with this car *sigh*.
For reference.. These bars:
(frame is upside down)

Re: what headers and why?
I've run a lot of different brands of long tube headers since the 80s. Never found a pair that fit with those support bars. So my bars have been out of the car since the 80s with no problems at all. I'd like to put them back in but I'm keeping long tubes for the power advantage. You might want to just go with a pair of mid length headers so you can keep the bars.
BTW, I like the hooker comps the best in our cars. Fit is very good even with 4 speed linkage. I've heard alot of good things about Hedman headers as well.

I don't want to go with mids. I'll remove the bars. Thanks!

Re: what headers and why?
We just recently had this discussion in another thread:

Full-length Tri-Y's work with no problem.

Re: what headers and why?
Awesome. I did try to search for that topic under different terms. So, I guess for now I'll remove the support bars and keep them aside for when I can afford new headers. Probably when I build the next engine for the car. That is really helpful. Thank you!

Re: what headers and why?
I am toying with shorties or using stock type exhaust manifolds. If you end up not using the supports I might like them for myself. Keep me in mind if you want to sell them and they'd work with a small block (don't know if there was a difference vs BBC?) Thanks!

Hooker Super Comp...only 2" header (BBC) available at the time.

Re: what headers and why?
Shouldnt be an difference with a BB. I've never seen any additional holes for these bars.
