3.42 Posi
Just bought a 3.42 Posi out of a 73 Chevelle SS 454/ 4 speed part out car yesterday.
Quick pic after a few hours scraping/cleaning/ pulling rusty bits off. Bonus was the finned ET diff cover, kinda like ones that came on the Baldwin Motion cars.
Need to get some new rubber upper bushings, brake lines and paint. Any thoughts on a rear disk conversion?
Should be a big improvement over the 2.56 open that's in there now

Re: 3.42 Posi
Are those 9.5 inch brakes, or 11 inch ? Nice ratio ! I'm usually OK with the 11 inch brakes, but the 9.5 inch seems a bit small for performance driving. Disc brakes would be a great up-grade of course....

Re: 3.42 Posi
They are 9.5's
My options are swap the current brakes over, upgrade to 11 inch drums or do a disc swap.
I was thinking about this setup-http://getdiscbrakes.com/drop/Instructions/AFXRD01_AFXRD05.pdf
I would love to see a notable improvement, but still build a package on a budget.

Re: 3.42 Posi
Kevin, I know he still had the swivel bucket seats, some interior pieces, front Clip, doors, glass and all emblems.
Told him about the site, but not sure if he checked it out.

Re: 3.42 Posi
Couple rear brake upgrade kits. There are others out there too.

I have used 'The Right Stuff' detailing and most of their stuff is ok. I just had a minor problem with a simple 'right stuff detailing' fuel line (from pump to carb) that was bent incorrectly, obviously bent incorrectly, and they had no idea what to do. I finally stopped calling to get a resolution because they were not going to provide one. The tech guy kept saying, it looks just like the other ones in the package we have here. Duh, they are bent incorrectly too. So just a word of warning, don't expect any in-dept support if there is an issue. That reminds me, need to package up fuel line and ship it back...
Thanks -
Jerry

Re: 3.42 Posi
BK.....
Over the summer I purchased the exact rear disc brake conversion kit from "Get disc brakes".
See some pics here at the end of page 2. https://www.g3gm.com/t8709p15-update-1973-monte-carlo-body-off-frame-resto
I had some issues with the conversion. I can say that the "brake " side of business.....support was "A1" !!! Two tech guys there really dug in for me.
I can talk you through some things you may run up against.
May help in your decision.

Re: 3.42 Posi
I thought the blazer rear discs were an option. Or even 4th gen camaros.

Re: 3.42 Posi
I know late 3rd gen rear discs are an option, they did it in Car Craft. But Impalamonte did the math on it and by the time you track down all the parts you can use and replace the consumables like rotors and pads, it comes out to about the same amount of money and more effort than just buying the aftermarket kit. So as an experiment I could see it, but it's not as cost effective as the new kit.

Impalamonte PM sent.
I did consider pick and pull route, but your correct it just as cost/ time effective to just buy as a kit.
