Tail panel sheet metal Empty Tail panel sheet metal

Does anyone know if the tail panel is the same from 73 to 77?
I am wondering if it is possible to put a complete 74 rear end on a 77 car.
Tail lights, center piece and trunk lid.

I know 76-77 has a different trunk lid with a cut out for the license plate

73 is a one year only tail panel

73 and 74 have similar trunk lids but I have not matched them side by side. I've heard that 74 is slightly different than 73 but I would find that hard to believe.

If you have the complete rear from a 74 and cut it in the right place, I dont see why you couldnt graft it on.

The whole 73 rear end is obviously it's own. Not much comparison to 74-75 and 76-77.
I am not talking about welding in the whole inner structure, I meant swapping the tail lights, center panel/license plate area and the trunk lid.
If the body is the same between 74 and 77, then it would be a bolt on deal to give a 77 car the 74 look.

73 - 74 Outer trunk Lids are same dimension only Difference is where the Latch hits the Body, Outer Shell is Same, 74 Tail is different Dimensions than a 75-77 and It could be Butt welded in but you have to change Trunk lid and where it latchs to a 74 trunk They will never line up if you don't. I am not saying it can't be done it Can with alot of Fabrication.....
One suggestion is to Find a 74 Tail panel where lights go Thru through and Mark the outline on the 76 77 Tail Section Cut that part out of the 76 77 Panel make sure everything is Squared up, Then Fill in the 76 77 section that you didnt cut out with metal Smooth sand paint

Another way is to Find a 74 Body and to transfer the quad lights to it instead of Single if thats what you Like Would alot easier than Tail panel switch

I wish I had a 1974, since I love the round headlights and the 74 rear looks the best I think.
I guess I will have to decide between the 75 and 77 tail lights.
Or will the 74 tail lights and center panel go on a 75? I guess it actually will, huh?
