Under hood support rods
Guys, the support rods under the hood, where they meet the fenders, is that supposed to be a stud that it goes onto? A stud that is fully threaded with a nut in the center so you can tighten it up? Then the rod goes on the top part of the stud and a nut secures it down ?
I have my blasted and epoxied rods out of storage and those studs and nuts arent with them. I just want to double check before I go crazy looking for them.
Anyone have a pair in case I dont find mine soon? I dont want this to delay my painting the body.
Thanks guys.

Re: Under hood support rods
Mine just attached to the fenders with the bolt that holds the fender. Not a specifik bolt or stud just a normal fender bolt. At the firewall is also no specifik bolt. Just a fenderbolt with a nut and washer. The fender brace goes under the little lip on the firewall, not on top.

Re: Under hood support rods
The support rod has.a.nut weled on one end and that's the.firewall end. I'm sure mine had , as well as.other 73s I've had, have a stud there and a flanges nut on top. The rod is slotted on the fender end.

Re: Under hood support rods
There is a good picture in the Gallery under 1973 Chevelles/Malubu of a survivor car, very good under hood reference pics. Itshows the stud and nut like Joe described. Now, don't know if that's a 1973-only thing or not.

Re: Under hood support rods
Thanks. I have the braces. But for.some reason the studs are.not with them. I blasted and epoxied them all together. Just misplaced the studs.

Re: Under hood support rods
Hmmm...if these cars had studs for the fender end to fit over, that's news to me. I've removed a number of these rods (including a set not long ago from a '73 Monte) and never found any like that.

Re: Under hood support rods
The Only thing I know of is the Firewall side having a Nut welded to bottom of rod The you put bolt On from top of Firewall side and the Welded nut is what secures it to firewall on all I have seen anyway. Is it Possible when you Blasted it separated from the Rod Joe ?   I mean if it Happened its an Easy peasy fix just take screw from it to Lowes or Similar and match it up to a 4 sided nut and Tack it back on

Re: Under hood support rods
Ok, searched this morning and no luck. Â Anyone have a pair of these studs to sell ?
I'm just going to use a fender bolt for now since the rods arent going in anytime soon. Â Motor has to go in first.

Re: Under hood support rods
I've had two Chevelles, a '73 and my current Malibu, & four Elcos of the G3 era, '73, '75, '76, and '77, and all had the same braces.
I have a spare pair here Joe. How about 25 bucks plus the shipping ? I have a mailing tube that will hold them.....
