Rally wheel question Empty Rally wheel question

Post by 77camino Wed Mar 13, 2019 3:52 pm

I have considered for years about going back to my stock rallys but I do like the stance of the 8 inch wheel that I’m currently running. Last fall my wife and I stopped by a garage sale and there set one Vette rally in the garage. I joked with them and asked do they have the rest. They said they were in the basement and shot me a price I could not believe. I kind of felt bad because I more or less stole them. Three are great, one has a bend in the outer rim. Anyone had any luck in fixing one or should I just find one more? Rally wheel question 961cf410

Also does anyone know of a place that sells our original style step beauty rims that are deeper for the 8inch wheel? I’m not as fond of the rounded edge on the Vette beauty rim.

I know it may be hard to believe, but that shouldn't affect the sealing of the tire or being out of round by the looks of it. The tire actually seals on the inside of the wheel. I would try and bend it out as best you can and have it spun on a tire balancer to see if it's bent or runs out straight, Then you could always put on a used tire to see if it holds air. Just my two cents sir.

If the bead isn't damage it might be okay. If it is, call a wheel repair shop to see if it can be repaired. Most around her only do aluminum wheels though. And it might cost more to fix that replace.

I bought a set of truck Rally's years ago for my old Suburban. The rims looked fine until they were on a balance machine. All four were bent and out of round. I couldn't fix them, they were essentially junk.

I did not pay much more than that for the complete set last fall! I think we paid $80 at the sale  and my wife had several things also. I got the wheels, caps, trim rings and even the lug nuts!

I bought a set of '68 Vette 8" rally's with new Coker "wide oval" tires about a year ago for $400. Sold the tires for the same. Could have sold the tires for more but was only looking to break even. I did get trim rings, but no centers.

Hey Kevin, I can do some horse trading with you for those wheels. I'm sure I can dig up something of interest that'll work.

68 wheels were a one year only 15x7, but took the same trim ring as a 69 15x8..

I may be wrong on the year, they are 8" wide and I broke even on the deal - I did not think that was too bad!

I sold a pair of AZ coded 15x8 '69 vette rims for $200. I had them dustless blasted and epoxied.

I bet you can hammer it straight. I had a bent one that wouldn't balance though. Might want to check them out before refinishing. Summit sells them too. I agree on the trim rings. I'd like to get the stepped set as well.
