1977 Impala coupe rescue
OK I got this poor car from a kid up in Germantown MD that was fixing to take it to the junkyard to sell it for honda parts went and got it,its missing alot, but as a whole its in good shape.
As it was when I picked it up...
The horror of the tail lights..
First thing I did when I got home was rip that crap out..
I bet there was 50lbs of bondo in the rear panel
They tack welded some filler panels on...

Good job saving that car from a fate worse than the crusher-What the heck were they trying to do to that poor car?

That's bat sh!t insane. Not like it's a high dollar valuable, desirable car.

I hate chopped rooves...unless it's a Lead Sled Merc...even that can get too extreme.

I also hate chopped roofs, and also cars that are so low they wont go over speed bumps at K Mart. JB74MonteCarlo wrote:I hate chopped rooves...unless it's a Lead Sled Merc...even that can get too extreme.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
Nothing wrong with lowered cars if they are done right. For that matter there's nothing wrong with custom bodywork either. Of course the tail panel on that poor Impala looked like a crackhead's dream come true. Glad to hear you saved it.

GM did a great job on most cars, leave them alone I think.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
I like em lowered enough where theres 0 to 1 inch between the top of the tire and the wheel well opening.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
OK , after I got it to the house, removed all the crap off the rear , I had a hole in the rear driver quarter I started working on.
As always rust is like an iceberg, The part you see is always just the tip..
Got 1 more repair on the inner side of the wheel well and then I can finish the outside part of the quarter.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
Guess it is..... Ahh they all look alike, even the one in "Strange Wilderness" kinda resembles him. Hilarious Happy Madison movie with some big name actors BTW.
"These birds are saying howdy to the zebra. Actually, they're not saying howdy. They're eating the shyt out of him."

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
One patch panel done, just gotta clean up the bottom of the inside paint it with some POR-15 inside, Seam seal it and weld in the final piece then on to epoxy primer.
Also took care of some tear holes in the rear of the fender.
Like these.
To this.
Could be alot cleaner welds, but I'm useing flux core wire and its not really ment for thin sheet metal work like this.
