I wish theses cars had an exterior hood release. My dad's Chevelle has it.

Strangely enough, the 48 Plymouth has an interior hood release. That surprises me.

Hey Chris, make sure that coil is one you can mount upside down. I found out the hard way they're not all the same (all the oil drained out of it).

That's the same one I had, and actually it's the new one as well. The one I just bought said to mount right side up ONLY. Course mine was sitting for 23 years, so that may have hurt it I don't know. Just thought I'd let you know.

Never had a problem with MSD, but I have had issues with Accel. I have their billet distributor, HVC coil, 6AL, Retard Control, BTM, and 8.5mm wires. Knock on wood, they haven't let me down yet.

I've always ran nothing but Accel or Taylor wires & recommend either. As far as distributors, I've tried Pertronix, Accel, MSD, OEM, & Mr. Gasket. What is there to say about OEM replacement parts? scratch Mr gasket sucked, it cracked the cap almost immediately. I've never had a problem with Accel in the numerous cars that I've used them on, but I have heard of a couple failures in all fairness. Pertronix kicked A$$, but you get what you pay for. At first I was having trouble keeping time until I realized it was the distributor hold down causing the problems. MSD on the other hand I have tried twice. the first time I used a coil, it lasted a week before burning out. I figured it was a fluke, so I tried another one later down the road on a different vehicle. This time it was coil, cap, & rotor. The coil was bad from day one. I replaced it with Accel & the truck ran great again. Maybe it's my personal experience, but MSD coils haven't liked me so far.

Plugs are plugs. If you buy into the gimmicks, well I'm sorry. I've tried Bosch +2 & +4, splitfire, Champion, AC Delco, Accel, & probably others. In turbocharged 4 cylinders, the Bosch +2 did help, +4 I couldn't tell the difference from +2. All other vehicles, I've never noticed a difference so I stick with either AC, Champion (same thing as AC), or the Accel shorties. I haven't got up the stupidity to buy $100 worth of iridium plugs yet......... Very Happy

I went through (2) different Accell distributors on my first rebuild. Long story short, the advance eights would get stuck on the inside of the rotor, causing horrible drivability. Turned out there was too much play in the shaft. Damn things were brand new out of the box. The performance shop guy told me it was a bad batch. I ended up getting my money back and went with a Chevy Performance Dist. Worked just fine for the 330hp crate motor.

This time around, I went with the MSD billet model and am very happy. Timing seems very accurate, and everything "plugs right in".

Back to Accel - A friend of mine put an Accel cap and rotor on his Furd Cobra. About 5 miles down the road he heard a loud noise and then a major backfire. Turns out the rotor itself broke inside the cap. Pretty strange if you ask me.

As for plugs - I agree. I usually run AC's and don't have any problems. If your motor is tuned right and your gap is good, then I don't see much of a difference. If you know of anyone spending $100 on plugs, let me know. I have some beach front property in AZ to sell them.
